Post Becker CD-Radio Illumination

Just bought a '96 coupe. Everything is perfect except there does not seem to be any illumination in the radio. It is the Becker unit (CDR 210 ?). I tried the contrast adjustment but that doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a bulb in the detachable faceplate that can be replaced? The manual doesn't mention anything. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried dialing the dash lights brightness up ansd down to see if that changes the radio dial brightness?

I have the answer

I also bought a 1996 993 - with the same problem ! It seems, for whatever reason in some 1996 993s Porsche got cheap and didn't wire the illumination up for the radio - but the input to the radio IS there.

All you need to do is take a wire that is 12v switched with the car lights - my tech took one from the illumination of the switch console between the seats - and run it up to wire into the radio input. From memory the tech charged $100 or thereabouts - but it would be very easy to do yourself.

Sanjay

My CR210 wiring diagram shows no separate connection for illumination. The radio illumination goes on/off with the radio power which is independent of the car's lighting switch. The radio is connected to 2 12V power sources - one ignition switched and the other constant.

Suggest you try asking your question on the Becker Board.
