A little trivia for you......
The 993 TT used in the AUTOSPEED article is mine.
The writer was very aware of the issues of recording wool tuft results.
Both video & still shots were taken on the day.
The still photos used in the article were selected specifically for there accurate depiction of the tuff behavior.
If you didn't read it, check out the testing of the VW Beetle .....very interesting.

I'll take a stab at this, since I used to study aerodynamics -- I think what you're seeing is the based on the placement of the tale. It's taped so the long end is on the lower side of the tape, and thus gravity pulls it under the car until it's at speed. if the tale were taped so that the long end was up, you'd likely see flow into the vent.
BTW, high quality tales usually have the wool or streamer part coming out of the center of the tape, with no directional preference:

It's taped so the long end is on the lower side of the tape, and thus gravity pulls it under the car until it's at speed. if the tale were taped so that the long end was up, you'd likely see flow into the vent.
