xenon headlights
Is there a place in L.A. where they sell and install a set of xenon headlights for a '96 993. Apparently Litronic headlights are on back order, and the wait and the high prices they're going for make them less attrative.

Go to Robin's site and look at the HID articles posted by a number of listers earlier in the year. You don't have to use Porsche items, but can buy replacement H1 Xenon bulbs with ballast/igniters and therefore use your existing headlight units.
Good luck.

We are in the process of testing and evaluating some HID Conversion kits. These use Phillips ballasts and hardware with various bulb options. Many of our customers have requested such a product for their 911's.
I should have this done by the end of the week and let you know the prognosis by then, if you wish.
These are VERY reasonably priced, too.

You might be interested in John W's H1 HID photos: http://y42.photos.yahoo.com/bc/etjw_...cs/lst%3f%26.d ir=/HID%2bLight%2bInstall%26.src=ph%26.view=t
and my D2S HID photos at: Dan's HID Photos
Both setups replicate Litronics at a reduced price. The H1, of course, is reversible and much easier to install. Both installs require modification of the light assembly casing & depositing the ballasts in the fenders. Both John & I (& a few others) have had our installs through months of driving incl. DE. I recently pulled my lights for an inspection & all remains tight. If you'd like any help w/the learning curve, let us know.
Hi Dan:
Thanks for your input,..its very helpful and your pictures were very enlightening,.....
(I crack myself up)
Due to the well-known switch problems and lack of relays, this looks like a very attractive solution for those who need better lighting,.....(anyone over 45) and Litronic lights are not available for anything beside the 993.
We are testing these in an older 911 with the dual-bulb H1 Bosch headlights and a late model VW GTI with Hella Euro dual-bulb H1 units.
