Question 993 deck lid power

Kind of an odd question.. A friend of mine is getting a new deck lid for
his 993 and is giving me his old one, I want to set it up as a display in
my basement. Yes I know its tacky but I think it will be cool. I would
somehow like to setup switches with power to the brake light and a switch
with power to make the wing go up/down. Someone suggested I could do this
fairly simply with a 12 volt inverter.

I haven't the slightest idea how to go about this, anyone have any ideas
how to do this? What I would need? etc? I am pretty much an electronics
idiot, thought someone might like to give me some hints =)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
matt

Mattc, if you're an electronics idiot, I would say find a partner who's done a lot of elecrical work on cars. The 12V inverter is the small part of the task.

For the light, I would think run a lead from the postive side of the inverter, with a switch in the wire lead, to the wire coming from the brake light. Then run a lead from the negative side of the inverter to a solid metal contact on the lid. Flipping the switch will turn the light on or off.

For the motor running the wing, basically a +12V signal runs it one way and a -12V signal runs it the other way. I would assume there are two wires running to the motor. So, if you connect the wires from the inverter one way (positive on wire "A", negative on wire "B"), motor will run one way. Invert the wires (Positive now on wire "B", etc.) motor should run the other way.

Rest is up to the expert you find and what the wiring on this lid/wing looks like.

It's not so tacky, my friend made sofa out of (front wrecked)BMW 328i convertible, he cutted it behind the doors, so backseat is a sofa now, he has 20" wheels on it & trunk serves as a bar (when you open up the trunk, lights go on etc. He did it well, so it's pretty cool.

Like Ray said, start with 12v converter, then it's very easy to connect all the switches, lights etc.

post a picture when you're finished w/ it
