(No affiliation, but I've never read a bad comment about any dealings with him and I personally visited his showroom and looked over some possible cars. Would have purchased from him if I hadn't already found mine.)
Diddo!!

Well this seems like the appropriate place to enter Rennlist for me. I share billh1963's frustration and it is eating me up! After selling my first Porsche over ten years ago and buying excuse after excuse, I am going to buy the last best air-cooled Porsche!!!! Oh yea, I sold my Porsche because I moved from San Diego (ex PCA member....) to Chicago where I thought I needed a more practical car (snow, bad roads.....stupid me) So now that I have the green light from the spouse, a check from E-loan.com, there is almost nothing out there to choose from!!!! Bill I feel your pain!

Where are all of the "don't worry there are a lot of 993s made"? Mothballed for the winter?? The two that I've driven locally were, well how should I put this - JUNK. I don't want a wholesale car with no history other than Carfax. One had a sunroof that wouldn't close and the guy ripped the cover off the gas cap when he tried to fill it up. The other one I drove with my daughter riding in the back seat, she said "Daddy why is all this ice under your seat?" A C2 cab with a seriously leaky roof - not one of my better test drives....

I can't even find an expensive 993 6-speed within 50 miles that I can test drive to see what a correct 993 should drive like.

All I want is a low mileage 993 coupe (or targa) 6-speed, not red or black.....(*sigh*)

Seriously, the best two 993's I seen have been on the classifieds here at rennlist.

Default Trials & Tribulations.....

I spent over one year looking for my car (1997 Pastel Yellow 993 C2) and had seven dealers throughout the midwest looking. I looked at several cars but found things with them that I did not like. Finally found my car - all looked good and I bought it. One month later - the dreaded valve guides reared their ugly heads leading to a top end rebuild. That was quite a "welcome to Porsche ownership" pill to swallow! The car runs like a top now and I absolutely love it!

I understand the frustration, it seemed that in 2003 there were quite a few nice cars available unfortunately the timing wasn't right and I had to wait until 04. It seems the market for clean lower mile cars got real thin and the prices jumped about 10% since last spring. Started to look across the country and considered 996s, when a low mile (17k) clean 97 C2 black and tan 6sp coupe showed up at a local dealer, Truspeed, a couple of weeks ago. Laura at Hergesheimer Motors was very helpful and the PPI was very positive. The Truspeed guys were good to work with. The overall search took awhile, but the car is great and it's very fun to drive. It's my first Porsche and appreciate the posts that led me to Hergesheimer and educated me on the 993.

Hi, Paul. Welcome to Rennlist!

Nice car.

Bill- hang in there. The hunt was part of the fun for me. Hope it turns out well.... although, if I had your old car, I would have never sold it. Love that color!! What were you thinking, man!!

Bill - Carrera Mike is selling his white/cashmere '97 993NB. It's listed in the Rennlist classifieds (can't get the link to work), and located in Chesapeake, VA, not too far from you. Mike's a great guy and I've seen the car a few times; it's in great shape. Might be worth a look!

Anyone can recommend reliable 993 dealers in Bay Area? Most Porsche dealers I checked don't have the cars I want....

That is an amazing price for that car!! If it's as good as it looks, someone is getting a bargain. It won't last very long in this market, plus, Mike is a great RL member. Surprised he's selling. You know that car has been well taken care of!!

Check craigslist. I used to see some nice cars there. 993s seemed to be better priced in No cal vs. So cal, at least when I was looking. You could also try leaving your name and what you are looking for with the dealers in your area. They will rearely have nice 993s on the floor but may have a customer looking to buy a 997 who needs to get rid of his/her car. Good luck.
