Default Tsunami disaster: Auctioning off Cup II wheels - proceeds goto Tsunami victims

As the subject above says, I'm auctioning off a set of Cup II wheels (no tires). 100% of the proceeds will go towards Tsunami victims (spread across several funds inc. the International Red Cross).

As a Malaysian, I was moved by the news and images of the disaster (thankfully, M'sia was spared the brunt of the impact). Having spent at least $900 for tires in December (two rears for the 993 and all four for the Audi) made me realize that $900 could feed several families for the entire year in those stricken areas. Having two cars, let alone one of them a 993, is a sheer luxury and has no comparison to what hundreds of thousands are going through.

I've had a set of Cup II wheels sitting around for awhile (was going to use them as track tires but they're too nice) and thought raising funds by selling the wheels would be a good way for me to do my piece, and leverage the goodwill of the Rennlist. The wheels are factory OEM (not replicas) with colored center caps (although the color is slightly faded). Three of the wheels are in absolutely MINT condition. The fourth one has five minor scuff on the clear coat at the spokes' highest point. I accidentally had it fall, face first (of course!) onto the garage floor, hence the scuff marks. A simple re-clearcoating should bring it back to new. Don't have pics yet but will try to get them up soon.

I would like conclude the auction by midnight Sunday next week (1/16). I hope to raise at least $700 (I'm assuming $200 per mint wheel + $100 for the less-than-perfect one) but perhaps someone would be willing to pay more given where the money is going to (Rennlist honor - no scam).

To those who've already given, god bless you.

Note: I have this x-posted on the 964 board.

Kelly,

Go ahead and post it in this thread. I will link the 964 thread to this one.

Randy,

I don't have the offset immediately available (Viken?). This is the OEM 17" wheels that came with the 993 NAs. Will try to get some pics tomorrow (believe it or not, I still don't own a digital camera!)

Very classy move, Rezal. Nice.

We need more efforts such as this.

I am very relieved to see someone actually doing something. I've been depressed by the number of people (in forums) doing nothing but complaining about which country has pledged what/ who's not doing enough/ administration bashing, etc.

I'll buy you a beer anyday.
I would suggest linking the auction or this thread on the pre-'89 boards. Many older car owners look at the cup II wheels as a nice upgrade.
Again, my sincere respect is sent to you and all those who have chosen action over type.

Leland

Default Pictures of the wheels

I just unwrapped the wheels to take pictures and realize that I would describe them as "very good" to "excellent", rather than "mint" I'll let the pictures speak for themselves (one of them shows a close-up of the slight damage cause by it falling on its face):

Way to go, Rezal. That's great! My wife & I have donated to the Save the Children foundation, and will continue to do so whenever it's possible.

Rezal,

it's wonderful to see how many people are looking for different ways to help out. I would be interested but wonder if it is going to be really expensive to ship them to Vancouver, BC Canada from Philadelphia. Any one out there know?

Stewart, they could go to You via USPS,insured and I would guess them at @ 30lbs apiece. You would want to call them of course"used auto parts".

You can look up the cost on USPS.com

...or you could be receiving them from your uncle as a gift. I've done this many times to my "nephews" in Canada.

Two questions I need to answer:
1. How do we bid?
Just post your bid in the thread, a la Glen

2. Who sends the donations?
I propose a hybrid solution. You will donate a portion (approx 2/3) directly to two funds I will designate (just show me proof of your donation) and you will pay me a portion for my own donation. Reason being is that the two organizations that I'm paying my portion for are not registered with the IRS as non-profit charities as both are based overseas. One is a grassroots rebuilding effort in Indonesia, the other is going to the Malaysian government's fund for the victims. What I can assure sure is that the money will not go to less desirable people (aka terrorists!)

Since your direct donation is tax deductible, I hope that I will get at least close to the $700! (I know Glen is just kicking it off, so this comment is not meant to imply that Glen is "stingy" ;-)

TIA
