Default Those who think 993's are losing value...

...are wrong! For what it's worth, I sold my '98 Targa (for North of $50k) in less than 2 weeks after posting it for sale on this site and Auto Trader. Fact is, I could have sold it 3 times, as I had three serious buyers and at least 4 other serious inquires - again, all in less than 2 weeks!!

They are beautiful cars and will continue to hold strong re-sale values, so don't let anyone try and convince you of something different!!

Long and strong all you 993 owners! As for me, I'm off to where I came from - back to a Ferrari. Oh Lord, wish me luck!!

Thanks everyone here for your help along the way. I've enjoyed the experience.

Going back to the Itallion Stallion, heh. Good luck, and thanks for the 993 high five!

In your area, good examples are few and far between. In So Cal, the volume is high, so the prices are significantly lower. It also helps that your Targa is the most desirable year and one of those most desirable color combos

Interestingly enough, Amir, it's coming your way!! The new owner resides in So. CA! And I agree, in fact that is why I specifically bought the 98, as I figured it would hold its value best.

Stu-

What Ferrari are you entertaining?. I wish the prices of the early 90's cars would come down a little!

Sorry but 993s are losing value. Just like every other non-collectible depreciating asset on earth.

Oh, gee am I supposed to refrain from posting (especially posting the obvious) because I sold my 993 two weeks ago and I haven't found a replacement yet? Geesh, I'd tell you to lighten up but my concern for non-member trolls is rather limited.

Eric:

Maybe the 993 as a whole are becoming collectable in a sense. I bought my 1981 SC for $15k, had it about 2 years and sold it for $19.5. Stunning example with 50K miles but still. These cars reach a point of depreciation and then will start rising in value. The current price of the 997 and obvious styling cues that seem to long for a time that has past are making people look affectionately backwards now.

Anyway, a bit of food for thought.

Alan, I agree with everything you say. I was able to easily sell my '86 for a couple thous$ more than I paid. However, I don't think 993's are quite there yet. In mid-2003, the average asking price for a mid-mileage 1996 993 cab was over $44k. In Oct-04, it was $40k. I don't I have data for coupes from 2003, but I'd expect a similar trend. One might make a reasonable argument that prices for '95/'96 coupes are leveling off, but there's a ways to go for '97/'98 cars, I'd have to think.

You missed the point entirely. My response was to your rude and curt response regarding values of 993s. No one wants that negativity here. I have no concern for your posting while"carless", but be a gentleman and dont snap up parts from rennlisters('a la supercups) when guys who really wanted them(refer to the thread several days ago) and HAVE CARS to put them on, missed out. As for calling me a troll, that is childish and very "AGRO-LIKE" :-)

Down to "Eric's Corollary" of half-price! NB that a car can appreciate in dollars and depreciate in real value - happened all the time to German cars in the Eighties and as soon as the euro hits... wait, I'll do another thread on that.

The amazingly tepid reception given to the 996 has certainly buoyed prices of end-of-the-line 993s but I wonder if the 997 won't put an end to that. The only question remaining to be answered by the market is how much of a premium will be put on the "special" cars like Targas and Turbos. It's interesting to note that although the Rennlist conventional wisdom is that 964s are worth nothing, the Turbo guys never got the memo and are buying and selling Turbo 3.6s for $60K.

I've been asking myself the same question. The 997 is a heckuva car!

Dude, you really need to get over it. I responded first to the Supercup listing. I'm going to have a car to put them on in a few weeks. And even if I don't, tough luck. Monitor Rennlist more closely! Besides, you probably didn't have a shot at the Supercups anyway SINCE YOU'RE NOT EVEN A RENNLIST MEMBER.

A Troll, BTW is someone who posts off-topic ad hominem attacks (www.urbandictionary.com). Is this thread about people buying parts for their soon-to-be cars? No. Do you disagree with my position that 993s are depreciating? If so, let's hear it. Until then, you're trolling.
