Porsche Tool Website/Hazet
I was purusing the "web" looking for a 12mm, triple square drive socket needed to remove the alternator nut, as I'm getting ready to update to a RS Pulley. Found this site and thought it might be of interest to the board.

Hope it can help someone!

Another alternative would be do order it through Porsche dealership of your choice(I recommend Sunset in Oregon) - part number 999 571 052 02. It also should be cheaper than through samstagsales.com.

Can anyone give a price on the OEM part # 999 571 052 02? I'm guessing its more
expensive then the $8-9 for the 3/8" socket that I saw "somewhere"
BobbyT: you can find alot in the "search" about this.
For me: De-clutters the engine removing the alt belt, simplifies doing a belt repair on the road and it looks like a fun project/low cost mod.

Jeff, with socket key one thing to keep in mind is to make sure that there is enough clearance to get the key and the wrench between the engine bay body rear end and alternator shaft. We didn't have that Porsche tool and had to take the rear cover latch off to use 12-point key insert, which we had. Hope it helps.

There is very little room to use a socket on a NA car. Even a super short one as you still need the wrench which ususally means you run out of room. The Porsche tool works fine. Maybe you can borrow one from someone locally. Just be glad you do not have a Turbo. The engine on a Turbo is set back to the rear 40mm over the NA car. You can not even get the Porsche tool to work. I take the Porsche tool and grind half of the male splines off and also some on the 90 degree bend to get it to work.
Good luck!! After it is done the RS pulley mod is nice...

I think you should be able to buy a bit from Snap-On that you can then use in a 11mm or 7/16 socket or wrench if clearance is an issue.
I bought such an animal from my Snap-On man and had to cut about 1 cm off to reduce the overall length to 3 cm. The Snap-On bit has splines for about 1 cm transitioning to the 11mm hex after just under another cm. This leaves plenty of hex for a socket or wrench while allowing it to be used on a tt.
I think this is the link in their on-line catalog: here
I have yet to be able to break the nut loose; I can't get enough leverage on the 11mm wrench. I struggle to understand how the factory tool can be of much use (assuming there's enough clearance!!) since it's so short unless a cheater bar is used.
