Hey, Kemo-Sabey: far as I know there are no issues dealing with long-term battery removal on the '95 model year. Later cars with the "Immobilizer" locks might be a different kettle of fish (remember reading something like a 7 page tech bulletin about this nightmare). Make sure the battery in your remote key is good or you're asking for some trouble. All I can remember.
Can you ship an airbag via UPS? Sure!
Legally? Might be something else; I would bet air shipment is a no-no. Then again, they have to be shipped from manufacturer or port of call to warehouse then a dealer. If you're shipping it someplace, why not ask the folks you're shipping it to?

Kim
Telephoned the "UPS Hazardous Materials Support Center" & was advised: (1) an airbag is "hazardous material" regulated by DOT, (2) UPS will only transport it from a "contract shipper" w/daily UPS pickup service who provides written certification of compliance w/applicable DOT regs & pays a surcharge, and (3) UPS will not ship it for an individual, period.
Of course, you & Melissa could forget to disclose the contents, but there's no question this is NOT a good time to ship an explosive device illegally.
Kim,
Good point.......but think about the funny story you would have to tell. Maybe you could just have the p car dealer in montery take it off? and ship it too mellissa.
Kim,
its only $$$$$......and if you leave it too the kids, they will just spend it anyway!
Have you resolved your airbag shipment issue yet? If not, consider using a crest from Performance Products. I have had several older 911's and always painted my own steering wheel centers but now that a nice looking and correct sized metal crest is available, I bought one for my '96 993 and am happy with it.
You do need to remove the double back tape and use silicone to attach it though as the double back does not allow it to sit flush.

And just think, if the airbag deploys, you'll have the reminder forever, a nice looking and correct sized metal crest in your forehead!!
My sister used DHL to ship my TechArt steering wheel from Europe to Texas. She is an individual not a "contract shipper" Furthermore she took the wheel itself to the DHL Office because it needed special packaging. Fed EX and UPS would not ship it...
As far as I know the wheel was shiped to my sister from the TechArt factory using DHL as well...
I store my car for months at a time and ofcourse I disconect the battery. No issues whatsoever with radio codes etc, including a clifford aftermarket alarm I have installed.
Then again i have a 95...
