Default Cost of locking motors

Just quick question about the motors being replaced. Are these the two top locking motors that lock the top down in place right above your head?

When I replaced them myself 2 years ago I looked all over the place and was quoted approx $500 each for them. Are they now $425 for both???

No, two seperate issues: (1) design flaw with tops/pins on early 993 cabs which will result in holder in the fabric unless you consciously adjust the top by hand; and (2) faulty motor locks which can strip and cause a ratcheting noise when closing, or may cause the top to pop up at high speed (lock gears can strip as they are brass...the right lock in particular is known to be weak).

For (1) you are TSOL. For (2) is what the recall addresses - PCNA finally issued a recall but I think it was mostly in response to chances that the top can pop off, rather than because the locks are prone to breaking (the gears can strip but the lock can still operate although annoyingly).

Alex, the recall notice says if you replaced the parts yourself, PCNA may reimburse you if you have the proper documentation for the repair. Those are the motors in question.

My car is at Rusnak Pasadena today getting the recall work done. I asked them about the wiring harness recall and to my surprise, they told me mine had been done in conjunction with the 30k service by a prior owner. My car is a 97 though I don't know the build date.

I called my local Porsche deal (Tischer- Maryland) about a month ago and they told me there was no such recall...then they speculated that it only applied to cars in Germany.

About 2 weeks ago my notice showed up...it's been a couple of wks and the parts haven't come in yet.

It continues to shock me that we know so much more about our cars and the status of issues than most Porsche dealer service writters. They should be requried to spend a few hours a week on Rennlist learning about the products the sell and repair.

Just had mine done and now there is a rattle in the top frame since the car was in, decided to have the oil changed.. should have asked what is cost.. $287 later I now know why folks change they own oil! Makes my Ferrari oil change almost look cheap.
