one touch power window up/down
I'm researching how to make the power windows/sunroof one touch up and down. Has anybody come up with a solution? I want something intelligent where you can use the one touch to open/close the window as well as open the window part way.
I have some good leads so far. The first one is using the DEI 530T window module. It allows control for two windows in both one touch up and down modes. This unit is small enough that it could be installed in the door itself. Cost is about $60.00.
The other route is this web site that I found online. Lots of schematics, IC's, and soldering involved. Looks pretty involved unless there would be a large interest and I could make a kit/assembly line out of it. Cost is unknown for this.
Thanks..
Jeff

Jeff,
Me and Gert worked on a project like this a while back. I even had a prototype installed in my own car for some time. This was a project that was scratched because the potential liability to the window electric motor.
And yes it was a device that worked!

At what point did you guys end up?
If the switch was just a timer based approach, then I could understand your fears to damamge to the power window motor. Becuase if you were in the full up position and you pushed close, then you would have a 5 second drain on the motor.
I seem to remember you talking about window switch a while ago, but it was a window timer and didn't take into account the position of the window. But I could be mistaken, however. If you remember, please clarify.
These other methods I descibed detect when the window is full up or down by detecting current differences and shutting down the motor. When the window is full closed, there will be increased amp draw from the motor. We can detect that and stop the motor.
I could also wire up this scheme for the sunroof as well.
Thanks!

Jeff,
I think this sounds like a great upgrade.
I am definitely up for this improvement but unfortunately I cant' offer any expertise on how to make it operational.

I'd be interested, as well.

The pinch sensor would be the same as the stop sensor. When the motor stalls, either by hitting the end of the track or something in the way, the circuit will stop.
You will be able to adjust this sensitivity.

Yes, it's been a while.
Here's what I found out:
There is a module called the DEI 530T which controls two windows. It has the operation that you would expect, ie, one touch down, interrupt while going down, one touch up, interrupt while going up, manual operation.
The problem was with the installation. To install it properly, you need to install it in the car, not the door frame. Apparently, moisture gets in the door frame and is pretty harsh on electronics.
I decided not to install it for this reason. Probably the best place to install it is just after the wires go from the door into the frame, near the door hinges.

If you do a google search, you'll find some hits:
<a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22dei+530T%22" target="_blank">google search results</a>
I'd love to find out how it works out. Another thing that you might think about is to go to a salvage yard and try to get some of the connectors for the window switches to make for a cleaner install.

Jeff,
Just an idea....Couldn't you install this inside the car via the storage compartment on the door. Just make a small hole (use rubber grommet) and run the wires to the door frame while the box sits inside the door's storage compartment nice and dry? There should be enough space up inside towards the front of the compartment to put the unit and no one would know any better. You can't see the space so when you open the compartment, there would be no unsightly window module there. I think Clifford also makes a window roll up module as well, (TWindows?) This would be a great upgrade, don't give up! :-)
Cheers,

Anyone ever consider this solution? The instructions indicate that it will work on a "911/924/944/928/968" but the catalog indicates only a 924/944.

Looks very promising. I've been interested in this mod since Robin suggested it a year or so ago. All that's needed is someone to volunteer to be a guinea pig. I served in that role for the D2S "gut the lights" HID conversion, so who's next in line?
