I certainly hope this isn't a duplicate. My clutch works fine - pedal doesn't hang, engagement point isn't really low or really high (IMO). BUT the pedal action is quite rough. Feels like there's no lubrication on the hinge, or that the master cylinder is shot. Another oddity is that the roughness isn't consistent; there are periods where it works okay, and other times when the roughness is quite apparent. The change in behavior doesn't occur every other actuation; it's more that there are periods of good behavior & periods of roughness. I haven't picked up a pattern there yet.
Before I tear into the pedal cluster down under the floorboards (I've even picked up the kinematic clutch lever update in preparation), I thought I'd check here to see if this is actually a slave cylinder symptom, or if I'm heading in the right direction.
thanks as always,
RNH

Robert,
I think you will find your problem with the rough pedal travel to be consistent with operating temperature.
In other words as the openrating temperature of your engine and transmission goes up you would feel the pedal getting rougher.
If that's the case, replace your clutch slave cylinder will solve the problem.
I know the problem feels a lot like the pedal aseembly or the hinges needs lub. but I am pretty sure it is the clutch slave cylinder since I had the exactly same problem with my car.

Thanks, Robin. As often as the slave cylinder is the culprit for a host of problems, I kept thinking it must be responsible in this case.
The fact that the dealer's opinion was the master cylinder and/or the pedal cluster helped confirm my suspicions that it must be the slave cylinder!
Shame I'm not in the market for a LWF, tranny re-gear, and chip -- the slave cylinder would be a hell of a lot easier to swap w. the motor out!

Hey, that sounds like a fair trade-off for the LWF you'll send me to install! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
