Post Fikse & RS Wing - Which & where to buy

My 993 is currently in the shop getting a set of PSS-9s & RS Swaybars installed - should look & ride great when I get it back later earlier this week.
My next two projects are a set of 18" FM-10s and a wing - probably an RS Wing.
Where is the best place to purchase a set of Fikse FM-10s? The only place I've located thus far is Wheel Enhancement; their price was $3510 + shipping; $300 for center caps w/ the Porsche Crest & $140 for anodized lug nuts. They did offer me $400 in trade for my Light Alloy Wheels from my 993. Any comments on them or other places that I should contact?
After doing a bit of 'net searching on wings, it isn't clear where to go or what to buy. I think I want the RS style wing but I find anything from approx $2000 from Gert, $700.00 for regular or Carbon Fiber $900.00 at Mashaw, offerings from Gemballa, GT Racing Inc & others, etc... What are the differences between these products and what are the best sources for wings?
Thanks much.

Rick,
Re the Fikse's, I would suggest that you contact
Fikse directly to see if they have any dealers in the Indianapolis area.

In my experience, Wheel Enhancement was about $500 higher than the pricing that was readily available elsewhere on a set of FM10's.

You may want to try Brian Buxton at Buxton Motorsports in Evansville, or the guys at The Racers Group for a quote as well.

Good luck,
Tim

Rick,
I would go with the factory parts if you are concerned with how good it will look.
In my experience the final product with aftermarket pieces is not as good as you can get with factory parts or your labor costs go up to get a similar result.
If you are open to looking at other wheels besides Fikses I can introduce you to the owner of Forgeline wheels. www.forgeline.com Don't look at the retail prices they don't mean much. My guess is that they will be a fair bit cheaper than the Fikses.

Thumbs up

You should consider the "Getty Design" line of products. His full line (RS tail, hoods, etc.) fit like factory & are of high quality in every detail. Here are a few posts from the Rennlist board just recently:

"...He is the guy that made, and makes the best 959 bodywork. He also has some of the best molds and kraft for making composite porsche parts..."

"...total agreement on the molds, inspired me to further my abilities. I fab up a bunch a different parts now, including 3.8 rs complete lids, ducks, rs front spoils, Mazda world challenge protégé parts, snowmobile race hoods, 7/8
scale pro stock bodies (big one piece part!)and soon vintage 1/4 midget race bodies (cute little buggers!). I am always up for a new challenge in mold making... But he is low profile, and supplies a lot of the main players with the parts you see in pano, and excellence..."

"...Quite honestly Arnold Getty was/is a sharp guy, and in the late eighties cease and desist letters descended from the Porsche lawyers. The 959 was in the unobtanium class, and Mark and Arnold made quite a pair, evolving the "Vision", the 959 bodywork for 911. Porsche was none to happy of the "splash", copies being made. And then there were the splashes of gettys 959
"vision". 959 kits were running rampant..."

I had a Getty RS wing... It was / is Beautiful! His stuff is more expensive then all the "other vendors," but there is a reason for that!

I bought my Fikse's directly from Jeff Garcia @Fikse. They build them to order so I thought it would be easier to go straight to the source. No sales tax either since they are out of my state.

Jeff Garcia was very helpful to me as well.

However, wouldn't you be paying full list retail by buying directly from Fikse? I assume that they are not in the business of underpricing their own authorized dealers/distributors?

Just curious...

Greg,
Thanks much for the lead on Forgeline - I'd gladly talk to someone there and would appreciate any help you can lend.
Just from looking at on-line pics, the Forgeline WC3 looks a lot like the FM-10; have you seen them in person? How do they compare?
Also, I appreciate your comments on the value of original parts - I found an interesting posting tonight about a guy who purchased a Mashaw wing - had to spend many hours in prep to get it ready for painting (http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/964_rear_wing/964_rear_wing.htm) - so much for trying to save a buck. Sounds like time to to drop Gert an email.
Thanks again.
Rick.

I have owned both RS wings. The factory and the aftermarket. The factory wing for $2000 is a good price and it is ready to paint. If you get the factory model, make sure that it is installed correctly [see 993 manuals for installation] or it will rattle. The aftermarket tail is a lot cheaper and mine didn't rattle, but I was not aware of the manuals' detailed installation. The factory unit is finished inside, where the others are visually hollow. $400 for you old wheels sounds way too cheap. I'll buy them for $400 and I don't need them. Good Luck, Jim in St. Louis

I will send you the owners info when I get to my office Tuesday. Steve is probably heading to Sebring on Wed or Thursday. I like the wheel you mentioned and it does look a lot like the Fikse, I have seen him do some wheels with a gray or black finish with the titanium bolts and they look awesome. One of their employees has a red 968 with the wheels you mentioned that are polished centers and they look great also.

I have been down the road with these body panels and have said more than my share of curse words when installing them on my race car. I am going to a factory front nose with an aftermarket splitter, since it is going to get sand blasted anyway. For my street car, I would stick to the factory parts, pay for the factory part or pay the body guy (unless that happens to be you) .

You may also want to check out Kinesis wheels, with forged centers. Gerry Gutierez from Discount Tire on Genesee Ave. in San Diego has a line on these wheels. Give him a call. They ain't cheap, but they are strong and light.

If you are going to go the 993 RS aero kit route, you are not going to save that much with aftermarket parts. You have a $40,000+ car, don't spoil it with cheesy fibreglass when you can get Factory for not much more. Gert Carnewal, from Carnewal Parts Express has the entire package 993RS Aero Package at a fair price. On the Aero Kit, the parts that the aftermarket guys can't seem to get right are the 993RS side skirts. I have not seen any high quality, well fitting 993RS from any place but from Porsche (Gert). Also note the the Porsche 993RS front spliters from the Factory are polyurethane, just like your front bumper and your present front valance. And as many folks know, Gert Carnewal is the place for the 993RS Aero kit, http://www.carnewal.com

If you don't want to spend the $ (about $2,800) and you are willing to go fibreglass, then consider the 993RS wing and front spoiler made by Better Bodies Motorsports in San Diego. They make high quality fibreglass. They don't sell the side skirts...Gert sells these as a stand alone item...about $800, more or less.

Check out http://www.beterbodiesmotorsport.com ask for Armando or Robert. These guys know what they are doing. They make some rugged fibreglass.

And those wheels you'll be unloading, I will give you $410 for the set , assuming they are 7" and 9" X 17 wheels, and in good shape. Note my bid is $10 higher than the bid posted above.

Does anyone have any opinions on the Gemballa products? I just noticed the following on Ebay - Ebay Auction for Gemballa RS Spoiler
Thanks much.
