Misfire and Flames !!!!!
Help ! My Freind an MOT Tester was taking my car today for its annual MOT test, while when sitting at a set of lights he noticed the revs drop.
When he tried to pull away, it started to misfire and splutter, he turned round and tried to get it home.
Every time he stopped the engine died then would misfire.
When he got home he tried to restart and noticed flames coming out of the exhaust !!!
Having it looked at tonight by RSR engineering but he said it sounds expensive.
Anybody had any similar nightmares,
I will let you know his diagnosis

I will take a generic stab at this, sounds a lot like the air flow meter not getting its signal to the computer. The Motronic on my 944 Turbo S would stumble, misfire and not let you accelerate beyond idle when the connector was not making good contact. Spray some contact cleaner in the connector and re-connect and see if the problem goes away.
Just wiggling the connectors can usually temporarily solve the problem.
Hope it's as easy as the above.

THIS IS A WARNING TO ANYBODY WITH A U.S.A. CAR THAT EXHIBITS SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. IF YOU HAVE ANY HEAVY MISFIRE, SHUT THE CAR DOWN AND HAVE IT TOWED!!!!!!
Ever since the incept of the catalytic converter, any adverse fuel mixtures will cause this converter to overheat possibly to the point of glowing cherry red! You can cause a major engine/auto fire if you keep driving a car exhibing such a misfire.
I learned this the hard way; had an '85 GTI that exhibited a bad misfire on a cold winter day. Car stopped dead as I was climbing a long hill. As I sat in it debating my next step, a passing motorist slammed on his brakes, pulled over, andy yelled at me , "You have a FIRE under your car!'. The misfire had caused the converter to glow cherry red hot and catch the undercoating to bubbling. This proceeeded to the plastic gas tank, melted it, and the whole car went up like a giant bonfire.
So BEWARE!

Not dissimilar to when my engine harness failed.
I didn't get flames (that I could see) but similar misfire, stutter, lots of smoke and neat petrol dripping from both exhausts.
Ask Russel (RSR) to examine the engine wiring harness (loom).
Check EJ's site for details <a href="http://www.pcarracing.homestead.com/wiring_harness.html" target="_blank">http://www.pcarracing.homestead.com/wiring_harness.html</a>
I've heard of another car producing flames (on overun) due to a failed injector. It had failed to wide open and was dumping fuel into one of the cylinders.
The resultant flames damaged (melted) the rear PU so badly it had to be replaced.
Good luck, I hope it's an injector rather than the harness. You might want to get it checked anyway.

Hi Mark
Russell from RSR came out in the pouring rain last night and had a look at it.
He plugged in his computer gizmo thing and then turned off each injector.
It looks like injector 2 is stuck open, pouring neat fuel through. Hence flames
Hopefully Russell said he could fit the new one today !!!
fingers and everything else crossed.
I will let you know.

Hopefully it is just the injector, as you say fingers crossed.
You must be localish to me if you use RSR. I'm in Lightwater, keep a lookout for a Midnight Blue LHD 993 with and RSR numberplate. That'll be me.
