Only possible problem is when you put a 98 ECU into a 96 car. The 98 ECU has a sensor for something that is not on the 96. My point was to alert anyone with a 96 not to look for a 98 ECU. The Check engine light will come on with the above set up. Sorry for any confusion</strong><hr></blockquote>
Hi Eric:
Not to add to any further confusion, but there are 3 different ECU's that one could use for the 96-98 cars:
'97 993 ECU (with driveblock)
'98 993 ECU (with driveblock)
'97-98 993 ECU (without driveblock)
'96 DME's are superceded to the above ones
I always ask someone if they wish that the driveblock feature is disabled when I reprogram it and if so, it will not matter if they get a year-specific DME or not.
No problems,....
