Post No "official" 993 short-shift kit?

Dear all

whilst my car was at the factory in Zuffenhausen for a service I had listed a couple of jobs including the install of a short-shift kit. The service agent didn't do it, stating that they had checked their records and there was NO official SS-kit for the C2 993. He listed all the 964 & RS variants but stated that anything I had seen advertised as suitable did not orginate from the factory. Where did you all get yours and who made it?

Thanks

Mike

Mike,
As far as I know, there is no official short shifter option. I used to have one on my old 911SC. It was available from Ruf. In Switzerland, for the Ruf option you would have to contact Elite garage in Zuzwil.

As far as I know, these are all factory parts:

What's up with the price difference between the C2 and C4/TT short-shifter? The "993 '95-98" model is listed at $300 and the "993 C4/T '94-98" is listed at $99?

Just for comparison, the 964 C2 is $124 and the 964 C4 is $99.

Thanks for any info you can give.

It depends on what "official" means here. There indeed is no short shift kit for the 993 if you are looking at the Tequipment catalogue but the shifter on the RS was a shorter throw shifter and works perfectly on other 993 variants. Perhaps, the factory needs to be reminded of the RS shifter parts?

I mentioned that and they stated to fit the RS parts would then be a "hybrid" offering. They would be happy to do it as an overall upgrade (including the gearbox) but not as just one part.

BTW Mark I had mentioned Schatz and they said they are not "Porsche Germany" factory parts but sometimes PCA "authorises" parts locally.

So in answer to my question I presume I should get the Schatz upgrade and not worry about authenticity?

Regards

Mike

Schatz charges $300 for a C2 shifter and ONLY $99 for a C4/TT shifter that needs additonal mods to your car to work.

Why they big difference?

Way to go PAG, just the right attitude for your customers.

The photo shows a number of parts. In the case ot the TT, it requires only the shift lever, as I recall. I suspect there is more to the C2 kit, but you should check with Schatz. Again, it has been awhile since I did mine, but I seem to recall the parts arriving on Porsche boxes - I could be wrong.

Guys,

Let me pose this question to the experts on the board. According to the option sticker on my 95 Carrera I have option # 241. Now, according to the kindel.com option decoder that is 'shorter shifting travel'. I have driven enough 993s to know that my car does have a short sifter and that the PO did not install an aftermarket unit.

Any thoughts? Am I crazy here?

E. J.
