Default Just got car back with cage....

It is a bit raw as it is not painted yet (he left a lot mess in the rear and all over too) and I have more interior stripping to do in the center console but I was able to lower the seat 4 inches and raise the head room with the removal of the sunroof another 2 inches. The cage only weighs in at just over 110 pounds (though I have not weighed it yet), that is what the fabricator said.

It has changed the car significantly in terms of stiffness, that cup suspension really likes it. can't wait to get it to a track next month!

Anyway, here are some pics of the cage and design.

Wow, you took a lot out of the car. Have you weighed it yet?

I love the greatshifter. With that much out of it, I'd expect you to be shifting the threaded lever, maybe a little duct tape in it!

Need weight...poorboy is going to be pissed.

I did not have the shift **** on there before, but I needed to allow the wounds to harden some so I put the **** on for now

I think poorboy has me in weight in a number of other areas

I need to get the car weighed in the near future as it started at a hefty weight of 3044 lbs !!! I know I have removed 42 lbs in the sunroof but have not weighed the other items:
-lower dash
-radio CD
-radio amp
-door panels and hi-fi speakers
-rear quarter panels and read deck with hi-fi speakers
-carpet and all interior, mats, insulation, etc....
- glue (at least 5 lbs of that crap!
- rear windhsield wiper
- front carpet and spare/tools
- rear engine insulation

and probably more that I am not thinking of right now. At any rate it was noticeable prior to the install of the cage but even with the added 100 lbs or so it is still lighter in a noticeable way.

Kary, that roll cage looks brutal! I see You are going all out

Mine was like that a couple of weeks back, but I did not want to weld it as I want a street car. Still don't know what to do with that roof liner and fire separation

I painted it Titanium and experimented with the dashboard as well over what previously was wood (not my choice) Obviously the steering wheel and hand brake are history and the guages will change to white.

Here are a few of pics with the disgusting sound proof and glue..

I run in V2 in POC and was in MI in PCA Zone 8. I might have to move to PCA zone 8 HM class due to the weight reductions. I will have to see when i finish the car and weigh it.

Just got back from a spirited drive around the area and am amazed by the difference in handling due to the stiffness of the roll cage. I am going to need to make some sway bar adjustments as the rear is a bit tail happy at the moment. I will need to get on a track to determine this better but now the tires are really working.....looks like I will need a bigger tire budget this coming track season

Wow, Kary...looks great!! (Ahhh, one day...)
I'd think twice about storing it in that garage, though...to have someone rip off your steering wheel like that is a shame!

Edward, LOL, I have thought about using the steering wheel as an anti-theft prevention tool. Since I still do drive it on the street occassionally, and it is still street legal (sort of), I can just take the steering wheel with me when I park it! Althought some vise grips would probably work if someone really wanted to steal it....boy I would be sad if they did steal it with the all the time, effort and money in this thng

Kary,

With the exception of the sunroof removal and steering wheel, my car looks quite identical to yours. When I last had it corner balanced, it came in at around 2700# with a DAS rollbar.

My car too is having a rollcage installed as we speak. BTW, a good (cheap) paint match for the cage is the Todoror (sp?) Red sold at WalMart.

Apparently, 'tis the season!

Kary, I would double check the POC GCRs. If you end up around 2,700 pounds, you're gonna get hit with almost 12 points just for the weight drop. We are estimating that my car will be close to 2,400, which puts me solidly into POC V0!

I see that there are alot of New Years resolutions to lose weight. I am putting my 944 on a diet to get about 500 lbs out and a cage in January. Not going to touch the 993.

Chris,
From your picture, it looks like you might have the car below 2400lbs

Kary,
Your car looks great. It has come a long way since the first time I saw it at Willow with PCA a few years ago.
