And are the Vertex cheapo stuff that people talk about these Zimmermans or does Vertex sell something else?
I searched & went through the post, called Vertex and doen't have clear answer...

Make sure that you get Zimmermans. I once bought OEM(was not Zimmermans. ) from Vertex and warped them. I don't quite remember the name, but
it started with a "S"
BTW, it was at the track and I was very careful to break them in properly.( same way as I did with Zimmermans)
Eugene.

vertex has had some questionable comments on this board.
as for personal experience: i found that each time i've ordered from them in the past i've been satisfied all but once. it is the one time i didn't ask three times that it was an OEM product.
cheers,
boris

FWIW, I remember Ray C mentioning that the Vertex rotors were junk....correct me if I'm wrong, Ray.
I also recall that, perhaps it was with the Zimms rotors, that they rusted on the hub portion because they were not painted...surface rust, mind you, but aesthetically displeasing. Again, I'm depending on my memory. Do a search and you'll get the skinny.

Ed,
I did the search and saw Ray's comments, as well as the rust 'problem'.
Many people have reported that they've either painted the hup portion or simply didn't mind.
Otherwise, folks stated that they liked Zimmerman rotors and had no problems with them (Zimmerman IS Porsche OEM rotors' manufacturer and makes 'aftermarket' rotors as well (you recognize the difference that Porsche rotor hub is painted whereas aftermarket isn't).
Ed, I think you said you liked them as well (we all understand if you don't remember... ) and didn't mind the hub rust.
Vertex said that the rotors are OEM but hubs are not painted.

All lasted about 25K miles exc. the Vertex; they lasted 9K miles. They warped in about 10 minutes of track driving, and started cracking that same track weekend. Other rotors were replaced when cracks got outside the factory specs. Vertex ones cracked all the way to the outside edge of the rotor.
Cost? In 1999 they were $138 for a front pair. You get what you pay for.

If I remember right, Suncoast sold the front 993 rotors for right at $100 a piece. The Big reds where around $150. Why not go factory? Not enough price difference to even worry about.

I agree with Greg. When it comes to brakes, it would be difficult for me to stray from factory parts. People sometimes fall into the 'its an OEM part". That doesn't necessarily mean a 'factory' part. Much like the Rotors that Vertex sells. They say their rotors are OEM, but maybe a lower grade?

I just received all 4 rotors and brake pads from a Porsche dealer in Oregon. $540 delivered in less than a week, all factory parts in Porsche boxes. And these are Big Reds.
Why mess around at these prices?

Chris,
My mechanic is a factory diehard and when we installed a GT2 upright kit in my car it had some OEM wheel bearings he only used them with my insistence. Well a season and a half later we were replacing them. The stock ones worked great in a friends 993 race car for much longer before they gave out. He thinks the tolerances are much closer for the factory parts and in his transmissions he won't even consider an OEM type part, even if it means a higher profit.

I agree with all you guys (to get OEM), in deed. That's why I asked since if I get OEM Rotors from Porsche dealer, they are made by Zimmerman and these are also Zimmerman...
I was wondering whether they are the same or not?
