Question 996 VarioRAM & PPI in Berlin, CT

I have a couple of questions along with a request for info. The first question: do all '96s have VarioRAM (and forgive me for my ignorance, but I searched the archives and could not find the answer)? If not, is there a way to tell (VIN number, etc...)?

I am 'looking' at a 993 in Berlin, CT (Center Auto Sales). Step 1 is complete, it came back with a clean Carfax report (returned lease vehicle purchased at auction)... Is there anyone in the area that can suggest a reputable shop/dealer for a PPI? I appreciate any help, thanks in advance...

Yes, the 1996 model has varioram (it was first introduced with the 95 RS). The VIN number tells you the year of the model. The tenth digit, from left to right, gives you the last digit of the year. Easiest way is to look at the engine. The varioram is the silver piece on the top with the six arms... If you need a photo let me know.
