Unhappy 996 MY 02 Wheels, cheap, not any more!

Gert had these absolutely beautiful (IMHO) wheels for sale in December, 18" X 8" and X 10", @ http://www.carnewal.com . I printed out a picture and was lusting over them for over a month. Finally, it came time to by track tires and I came up with this great rationalization, buy the 18" wheels for $1,400, "fire sale" my 17" Cup Wheels for $500, and I'd be set up for a net cost of $900, such a deal. Add in a nice set of the new Kuhmos, I'd be out under $2,000, tires and wheels, NOT. It seems in January, Porsche raised the price on these wheels by 110%, from $1,400 to close to $3,000, ouch.

You know Porsche was making money at $1,400, the 110% increase would seem to be pure profit, as pure as it gets....that seems a bit excessive to me, approaching a rip off . Gert sold two (2) sets in December, and two lucky Rennlisters are now proud owners of "my" wheels, for them, for me. Of course Gert has no choice but put to pass on the increased cost (110%), yuk!

I'll just stick with the 17" Cup Wheels and look around for some Kinesis, or? wheels in 18". And the next time I see a great bargain like these MY 02 wheels, I am jumping on it!!!!!

Martin,

You've got too much time on your hands!!! If you're posting on Rennlist right now, then you should have gotten your a** over to the restaurant for our quarterly board meeting. Jamming DJ with a $200 lunch bill just wasn't the same without you!

Bummer! I have often noodled on a very similar plan, Martin. I knew that price was too good to last!

RS Wheels for $1,400...I won't lag on that offer...not to worry, it won't happen. I just like the open look of the MY 2002 996 wheels. And they look easy to clean, and easy access to cleaning the brake calipers.
