Guys, all I asked for was a DIY link, not a debate on the legalities of the install.

Geeeeez, Lighten up!!

It went fine, the tech working the car kept getting interrupted so I don't have an accurate time line. He took a little longer because he took the power and switching from the fuse box instead of going to the battery because he does not like cutting into harnesses. It ended up being a very sweet looking installation.
The customer (rennlist member) is happy with the lights. I drove his car to pick him up this evening and on the way back to the shop to drop me off all he could say was "WOW! I love these lights".

I have him started down the slippery slope, he made the mistake of asking what to modify next.

Was it an OEM or after market kit?

Yes, I believe they do. I did not put in lowbeams though as I had fitted litronics sometime ago. You can always do the PIAA high beams first and see how they compare to the stock H1...you'll want to do the highbeams anyways whether you go OEM, aftermarket HIDs or Xenon.

As grmnxtc indicated above, all 4 of the regular 993 headlight bulbs are exactly the same - H1 halogen bulbs. The "high" and "low" beam bulbs are identical & fully interchangeable.
In all the independent testing I've seen the best performing halogen bulbs were Osram/Sylvania's Silverstars. FWIW, the clear Euro Silverstar's reportedly put out a bit more light than the blue tinted US version.

Just FYI, I put in PIAA all round before going HID, and then last week tried Silverstars in place of the PIAA high beam bulbs. Admittedly, I cleaned everything again, and had a general re-alignment of the lights after, but the Silverstars were a definite improvement over the expensive PIAAs .........

HTH, cheers, Maurice

I can vouch for the Osram Silverstars. Have 'em in my Porsche and BMW bike. Problem is when I drive my wife's E500 Merc. Wagon I realize just how weak the halogens are compared to HID's. I just ordered the kit recomended earlier in this thread off of Ebay. 272 satisfied customers says he's doing something right.
Here in GA there is no state inpection other than emmsions. Hell 85 in a 55 is barely ticketable! With the projector assembly in the 993 for the low beam is isn't very apparent that any mod has been made.
I'll post a reply with my experiences on the install and performance.

I saw his site. But I didn't see any 4300k kits so I passed. 4300k has the highest lumens wich is actual light output. Anything above 4300k light output is descreased.

I just bought and installed the Ebay HIDs. Thanks, Brian for the link and the help you provided while I installed mine this past weekend.

Sorry, didn't take any pics of the install... was trying to finish before the start of a football game. I spent about 2-3 hours installing them, with the biggest "problems" being the drilling of a 1" hole in the back of the plastic headlight housing cover and the other being where to mount the driver's side ballast. Some industrial strength velcro worked very well for securing the ballasts.

I installed mine in place of my high lights, which were already 100w phillips halogen bulbs. To say these are a lot brighter than them is a severe understatement. These literally light up the road at night.

Very good investment for what they cost and completely reversible save for the 1" hole in the housing cover. Thanks again, Brian!
