Just moved to NYC from California, and looking to do a little preventive research...What is a good quality independent mechanic shop in NYC/boroughs/NJ/CT area?
I live in NYC, car parked in Queens. Nothing wrong right now, but I'm looking to build a list of good places before I actually need it.

JPS,
I use Rennwerke in Elmsford (Westchester - (914) 592-4006). Cheech (who isn't anything like the Cheech you're thinking of) is very knowlegeable and an all around upstanding guy. He's done all the work on my Porsches since I bought my first, and I'm happy with his shop, and prices.
Good Luck!

Are you actually going to be living in NYC?

I heard a lot about Cheech and am considering to try him out as all the shops in LI are pretty expensive. How much does he charge for an oil change? Their oil change prices are what I usually use to compare reputable shops.

Arrwin,
I'm not totally sure how much for just an oil change, as I've always had oil changes done while
up on the lift for other stuff...But I'm pretty sure it would be around $200.
If you Call Cheech, tell him I sent you, and he'll treat you right!!

Oh, and JPS, I always have my tires drop-shipped from the tire rack to Rennwerke and they mount and balance for around $100 or so. I think most shops will do that though...
Hope that helps.

I would give my total support to going to Westchester County to Cheech. He is truly a great Porsche resource and honest all the way!!!
