Thoughts/opinions on StonGard film?
#16
I did invinca-shield on my car a few weekends ago and am happy with the results...their cutomer service is also very responsive and first class. I would definitely recommend that you get the hood piece that goes up about 1/3 of the way up the hood, and also get it w/o the emblem cutout. You should also get the better squeegie...having to buff/polish out the scratches afterwards is a PITA (you can buy one at Pep boys for less...it's used to apply windon tint). I got the 2 piece front bumper shield for my TT bumper - thought about trying to get a 1 piece but decided that it would be too painful to install. The bumper is the most challenging pieces to apply because of all the curves but no problem w/ the 2 piece...there is a faint line but it's not noticeable unless you look for it. Cost of the kit was a fraction of the $500-700 that it would have cost to have it professionally done. Next I need to replace my rear fender guards.

Chris - Very nice Targa you have there; I noticed that you have a two-tone interior. My 98 cab also has a two tone interior (tan and black) and I recently added a black leather door insert to replace the vinyl to add some contrast and take some blandness out of the interior. I think cost was about $80 but I think it could be done even cheaper.

Thanks, David. Did you have the door panel insert custom stitched by an upholstery shop, buy them pre-made, or buy the leather and do it yourself? A little more black on the doors could look pretty sweet! Can you post pics of your doors?

if i do the invinca-shield as a DIY do you guys recommend -
1. buying the kit online (www.invinca-shield.com)? alternatively where did you guys buy your kit?
2.which kit do you recommend? invinca shield has kit # 3620 for 993s with a few optional pieces to it. the 993 kits online appear to have the 2 piece bumper cover which is good, but they also have a cutout for the emblem...
3. did anyone experiment with the optional pieces? i need to replace my rear quarter panel covers...
thanks

-Chris

Chris - I bought a kit from Performance Products (no affiliation) and the supplier is a shop in Florida. The leather in the kit does a pretty good job of matching the texture on the dash (i.e. not too smooth) and is precut...also comes with adhesive but I used a different adhesive. To be honest, I think that you could source the leather from an auto upholstery shop and do it much cheaper. DIY is probably a 2-3 out of 10 in terms of difficulty...most challenging part is removing the door panel from your car - then all you do is peel off the old vinyl cover and glue on the new.
Here's a pic of the door panel insert:
...and a pic of how it looks with the rest of my interior:

I personally think the contrast is a nice change...but I'm a bit biased!

They will customize the kit for you - so you can delete the cutout, extend the hood piece, or anything else you like. I also purchased some of the optional pieces, included the rear fender guards. You can mix and match any parts from any kits, as they are priced as a kit but also priced seperately.
