Gross chronic acid spill (disconnected vent). I've washed the area with baking soda paste. Just finished sanding; I intend to spray the area with a Zinc based primer, then apply paint. Any additional steps?- Needless to say, the battery is gone and I'm getting Optima. Repeat the same steps with the underside?
TIA

Don't use baking soda, it is hygroscopic and corrosive in its own right. Best thing to do is flush and flush and flush with fresh water, then dry it out and treat with an anti-corrosive like Corrosion Block, or Corrosion-X or Boeshield T9.

I had this occur a few years ago on a old Porsche I had.
I scraped loose paint and rust away then use a small amount of baking soda and water to remove the acid residue. The next step when dry is to prime the area with Rusoleum red damp proof primer. This will seal the metel brush two coats allow to dry.
Follow with proper color enamel to blend the repair. It is a job you can complete rather quickly and not a big deal. I now use battery mats on all my cars and check batteries monthly. I still think dry cell batteries are best for me especially since I cannot always trickle charge.
BTW, spent lots of time in RST. Great place to live.

Thanks guys. Does it matter what kind of primer to use?...I got a generic Rust treatment and Zinc based primer from Nappa.
How about the underside?..what to do?? TIA
