Well nearly a month has gone by now--The cost of a new wheel per my Porsche Mechanic is $1200. The tire shop can't authorize paying this and are turning it over to their insurance company--They are still trying to push me to have the wheel repaired--I've refused that as an option

Dan from St Louis--If you happen to read this--Can the insurance company "force" me to accept a wheel repair?--what legal options should I pursue if any?

Your advice (and others) has been a huge help to me.

I'm sorry to have to post this, but what has the world come to when you have to go through all this after a tire shop screws your wheel up? They f'ed up the wheel, they buy you a new one to get your car back to where it was before the damage. How stupid do they think people are? Did they really think you'd be satisfied with the repair of a damaged wheel on a hundred thousand dollar sports car? Jeez, what a bunch of janky, airhead morons.

I think this is a classic example of a squeaky oil getting the wheel.

Be squeaky oil. Don't let them "fix" your wheel under any circumstances. If your wheel had fallen off, someone could have died. Their mechanic screwed up; the cost of a new wheel at $1200 is WAY cheaper than a wrongful death or injury suit against them from circumstances that could have very easily occurred.

IMO, the tire place is lucky no one was hurt.

This post started prior to my wheel issues. Upon inspection during the install of new tires from a "reputable shop" I had noticed that all 4 wheels had been scraped. They immediately documented and will be paying to have all wheels refinished and a rental car provided. No problem.

To add insult to injury, when driving home that day I noticed a slight shimmy and found that not only had all of the lug nuts not been properly torqued, but the rear tires had been inflated to 51 & 53 lbs. Fronts were OK. Basically, they did not do anything correct. They won't be getting any more business from me. Too bad, as I go through tires quickly.

Well ... $1200 for one rim is kind of ridiculous; if you call Wheel Enhancement they will either have a new one or a takeoff that will be considerably less than that, probably less than half the dealer list price. If it happened to me, I would not mind a used wheel as long as it was in perfect condition. Just make sure it's a factory wheel and not a copy.

I got an as-new 2001 Boxster 17" rim from Wheel Enhancement for $250 after an encounter with a pothole.

It sounds like they are balking at the $1200 price tag, perhaps going back and asking for a few hundred dollars will get the job done without a lot of extraneous hassle. They screwed up, and should pay, but the main thing is to get back on the road and get it behind you.
