Here is the image of the rotors that came on the car "old rotors"

These look like the rotors that Greg was illustrating. But I was wondering if the came from the RS parts bin?

I am looking a a pic of the RS front rotors out of PORSCHE Service Information Technik '96 911 Carraera RS #WKD 499 620. The rotors appears to be the standard Big Red rotors, one piece.

In the course of tracking my car over the past year, I have had the opportunity to use the Big Reds on many a 130 mph braking opportunity. They have been flawless, never have they faded.

The biggest opportunity to use the brakes was earlier in the year at a PCA event at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA. We came of Turn 2, a high bank, and had to get the car down to second gear for a sharp left turn into the infield. Lap after lap, no fade...these brakes are fantastic!

Charles,
I am going to throw a wrench in all of this.. Sorry. I was out doing some work on my race car and I found that my rotors are identical to the ones you said where taken off your car.
See if you can find the part # on your rotor, they should be on the hat portion.
If you notice on the lower picture of my first post with pics, you can barely see the bolts on the rotor.

Now I am wondering if you got the right rotors on your car now????

Greg,
Yes it’s a 993______-part number... I have someone checking that part number now (the rotors are in my other garage). They have steel hats instead of aluminum, and are quite heavy IMHO. When the number was brought up at dealer the picture showed a 1-piece rotor instead of the 2 piece. Took the car back to Reid V. and they are going to try to get the originals (about $100 more per rotor.

Part Numbers:
LU 993.351.046.10
LU 993.351.045.10

There might be what looks like some sort of trademark. A triangle with a VD inside it before the Part number.

They look the same as the part numbers that Viken gave in the (Diff / RS-TT/C4S post)

This is interesting, I also have seen both the 1 piece and 2 piece 322x32 purported to be oem TT/C4s/RS. The 2 piece w/ aluminum hats have all been after market.

I just got my car back . The front rotors are available from the Porsche dealer. They had to take the old rotors down to the dealership to show them the difference (about $50 per rotor higher but I feel that the aesthetics are worth it). The hats are painted the “Primer gray” but easily clean up to match the “old machined finish”. Thank you all for you help and education! I dread the thought of trying to maintain my 993 without the expertise of the members of this forum. <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />
