Martin;

I may be interested in a GB for the AJUSA wheel if the price is decent.

In rwsponse to another poster... Will the TIP wheel fit a non-tip car? The switches don't bother me that much, and as was stated, those tip switches can be used for other things (timer, radar detector on/off, radio volume control for aftermarket unit, etc)

According to the P-Car web site you can use a TIP wheel on a non TIP car.
They have a tech article for wiring the buttons for an aftermarket stereo.
I'm also curious about the aftermarket air bags with glued on Porsche crest.
There are rumours that the crest could be a dangerous projectile in an accident.

Steve, to answer one of your questions. Only the leather air bag comes with the stitching. The 3 spoke wheel was standard to both 996/986S I forget the 1st year.

I may have finally located a stitched leather airbag... details to come soon. This would count me out from the group buy on the AJ USA wheel for now.

Steve et al,

I am going to AJ USA today. If I can get a better deal on the wheels, I will post a string on a group buy. My neighbor has the wheel. It looks to be all leather to me...I'll also as AJ USA.

If I could get a 996 3 spoke leather wheel for the $750 or $800, I'd be all over it. The best price I have seen is over $1,000...Gert isn't much more.

I will also call my Porsche contact and see if there is a break on 996 3 spoke all leather wheels. With the euro rising against the dollar, I doubt it though.

Best regards,

Thanks Martin for the advice to go with the 996 wheel with the leather airbag for the lower price than the AJ USA one... I'm still working on that deal.

As far as the AJ USA 3 spoke GT steering wheel, it does NOT have a leather airbag - it's vinyl. Also, the chance of getting a lower price than $739 is zero according to the Scott from AJ USA that I normally deal with there. Maybe you know the owner and can do better? I'm guessing no on that. He said it's so heavily discounted as it is that even with a group buy of 5-10 they won't discount it.

So - I'll check back in with ya' all when I get my wheel!

Default Los Angeles Dismantle for Porsche reply

Martin & Steve -
Los Angeles Dismantler for Porsche here, sorry we're out of stock on the leather 3 spoke airbags at the moment, we don't see them often or they come in damaged. Did a search for the name Martin and didn't see any calls from yesterday, sorry you didn't get a return call. We get 100's of calls a day and do our best to return them as quick as possible but the parts manager usually has multiple customers following him around the shop all day which makes it difficult. Good luck on your search. Any other questions 818 POR-SCHE Sara

Sara,

LAPD...sorry about the callback misunderstanding, and even sorrier that you don't have any wheels. In retrospect, I suppose that since your cars come in after a severe crash, it does make sense that the bags would have gone off. I do appreciate the note as does Steve I am certain.

Best regards,

Martin

Oh man am I happy. I never knew that Viperbob was associated with that particular Porsche business. Now I know, from his recent post on Rennlist about the Xmas specials. More importantly, he private messaged me that he could sell me a leather airbag with the silver crest for a very attractive price and ship it ground. I talked with Austin just minutes ago at Devek and it will be in the mail shortly.

I'm also checking into the C4S centercaps as my gold crest centercaps are faded badly. AND, what the heck - it's almost Hanukkah, I'm checking into getting the MY 02 shifter and OEM aluminum/black leather emergency brake. You only go around once, right?

It's all good.

Since I have had my 993 (just over a year) I have been a repeat customer of Los Angeles Porsche Dismantlers. My 993 was damaged when I bought it and I bought all of the replacement parts from LAPD. Needless to say I became very well acquainted with Todd, Sara and their staff. Besides having a great inventory of parts for Porsches, they are also very knowledgeable of the cars and their integrity is beyond approach. If they become sponsors it will be a win win for all.
