Going over speed bumps.. funny noise

Ok, I absolutely love my new car and I'm getting used to its sounds. For example, about half way through the day I realized that the noise I heard when I came to a stop light was the rear wing closing ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
However, this one I can't place: When I go over a speed bump, it sounds like the front shocks need to be 'oiled'. A 'creaking' noise which is fairly loud... almost sounds like I'm bottoming-out the front bumper, but I know I'm not. This only occurs when going over speed bumps.
Steering rack? Shocks/springs? Or?
Also, will a steering rack leak hit the ground or collect in some type of cover?
Thanks
Dennis

C4SFan..
How many miles on your car ? Have you replaced the shocks or are they original ? The oem shocks on these cars were made by...eeek....MONROE !!! Needless to say their life span is short...very short.
30-40k max on these shocks...if not less.
I had the same noise occur on my car going over not only speed bumps but deep undulations in the road.
The shocks compressing are old and weak and needless to say....whine and creak giving the sound impression you're bottoming out.
I doubt it's the rubber bushings on the anti-roll bar.
Might be a good time to investigate upgrading the suspension though.
Good Luck !!

I had the same at about 20K miles, more so in colder conditions. Dealer replaced and lubed sway bar bushings under warranty. Sound gone. I suppose you could just lube the existing bushings if they are not worn.

C4S,
Noise may be loose, misaligned or rubbing front fender liners. I had a similar noise over speed bumps when I got my car. I pulled the fender liners and trimmed and refitted with new hardware.

I agree with the others about the rubber bushings. I had the same noises. Lubed them, and sound was gone. Cheaper than replacing the suspension, although you will have to replace at around 35K-40K Miles.

Yea, I think its going to end up being the bushings... the car has 40K miles on the clock, so the suspension is up for a rehaul. I'll look at it as "two birds with one stone"

My car makes a similar noise and it has 17k on the clock. More noticeable now that it is cold. Mabie it is the bushings. If the shocks are gone I would have some justification for the few Gs it will cost to change the suspension.

After a DE event the original shocks gave. I did not replace right way and the sound started. I have since left the stock springs with Bilstein HDs and their was a huge improvement yet still happens on larger bumps. Temperature dropped in Chicago significantly and suddenly over the holiday and the creaking is back with a vengeance. Local Porsche thinks it is the bushings. What do you guys think?

Is pulling them off and lubing them with silicone grease relatively simple, or do you need to undo have the suspension? Any particular silicon grease you recommend.

Its relatively simple. I simply remove the swaybar so I can clean it up and then slide the bushings off. After that, I lube everything with some Dow Corning silicone grease I have here and reinstall.
With patience and perseverence, this can be accomplished without strut removal and thus realignment.
