Default Rattle in shift ****

Does anyone else have this shifter? If so, do you have a quick DIY instructions on how to get the top of it off? It sounds like a loose screw which needs to be tightened..

The screw is probably around the leather gaiter where it meets the c/f handle.

C4S,

You should be able to feel the set screw through the leather. Its in front, just below the shift ****.

Emilios is correct - you have to pull the leather boot out of its "moorings" and pull it up over the top of the shift **** to see the set screw. See....

Unfortunately, though, the rattle may be something loose in the shifter further back.

I'm fairly positive its coming from the **** of the shifter... I pulled the leather boot out of its moorings and the screws that I could see were tight. I'll drive around some more and see where the noise is coming from.

I just took care of the same rattle in my C4S a few days ago...the sound was driving me nuts. It sounds like something is loose, but in fact it is the coupling rattling against the shaft that the shifter slides forward and back against...you can see this under the rubber boot that is under the leather shifter. This is accessible by removing the four brass screws holding down the brass plate that holds this rubber boot in place. Some really good lithium molly grease on the shaft does the trick.

PorscheDavid: I really think you're correct. I'll try this in the next few days.
