Question Switchblade key

I've seen a few posts commenting on changing the Switchblade key to the key and fob combination. I have both, and seem to be in the minority in that I prefer the switchblade.

Problem is that the switchblade is now broken - the electronics are fine, though. I've searched pelicanparts, performance products, etc and lots of places and can't find a new unit.

Anyone seen one anywhere?

Dave. Call Scot at Denny's Auto Body Shop in Lafayette, IN at 765.447.1521 They had to buy me a new one after one of their mechanics destroyed my old one. He found it pretty fast but it cost them about $165

Have you tried a Porsche dealer?

Dave, I liked the switch blade in the pocket and I think it was easier to insert key into ignition with it, but I literally had to place it up against the window to get it to work (and even then it took repeated tries). Your mechanic should be able to order one. I think mine said he could get me a replacement switchblade or the key and fob.

Sounds like all you need is a new plastic case. You can order just a new case from any Porsche dealer. Don't know the part #. As I recall it was not very expensive. Perhaps someone on the Board who converted will give/sell you their old switchblade. I'm keeping mine to pass on to the next owner when/if I would trust myself moving up to a 993tt.

Follow the directions at Robin's DIY key conversion site to remove the key & electronics from the old case (reverse to install in the new case).

Dan,

When I checked the part number for the switch blade remote key I found out that you can order the separate top portion, but in order to get the lower portion you will have to buy it with the RF PCB, that which drives the price way up.

The complete switch blade module is : 993 637 049 01 433 MHz
Here is the break down
The top cover is 993 637 249 00
The bottom housing with the RF PCB is 993 637 149 01
Screw 900 146 155 07
Battery 999 611 105 00

Robin
Guess my switchblade plastic case is more valuable than my stock portfolio

Yet another reason to switch to the separate key & remote fob.
