Post Battery Drain

My 1996 993 recently developed problem with a battery drain. To make a long story short, after some investigation, my mechanic found that there was a drain on the battery that would last anywhere from 15 sec to several hours when the battery was reconnected to the car's electical system. From the time interval (15 sec), he has determined that it's most likely the "delay relay", which keeps the lights on after the car is shut off.

Unfortunately, this relay is nowhere on any of the schematics that either he or the dealer has. He thinks it might be because the relay may be close to the alarm system, which is apparently a closely held secret. The dealer didn't know where this thing is, but is going to try and find out from PCNA. Then maybe we can replace it and see if that fixes the drain problem.

Anyone know where the delay relay is?

Thanks

From description in shop manual, looks like it's probably part of the alarm computer black box. Located in one of two possibilities, I think:

- Shop manual for original 993 has the central alarm computer (which appears to control light delay) in one of two possible areas:
a) center of dash
b) under passenger seat
Absolutely atrocious picture in Volume VIII of the shop manual, which I'm SURE you've looked at.

- Description of "Immobilizer" system (which you might have) shows it under the driver's seat. Doesn't say much else in Volume VI of the shop manual.

Thanks, I'll tell my mechanic. He took apart a lot of the panels in the cockpit and didn't find it.

Alarm box located under passenger seat. Only a box with pin prong cable if I remember correctly. Greg Fishman can probably help you out. We had his in and out and it took 6 months before we finally got the doors to unlock and immobilizer working again. Ask him.
