Pete:
Yep, that's the place. And there I was digging through the yellow pages under "service station." Guess my online skills are seriously lacking...

There's a 76 station at the La Paz exit off of route 5 in So Cal. They have 100 octane at $5.29/gallon as of two days ago.

dld, when was the last time you checked? I drove to that gas station tonight specifically to check (well, it was on the way to the bookstore ) and did not see a 100 octane option unless they are selling it out of 55 gallon tanks.

I may sound like an idiot, but how high octane can you fill your car with? I heard that too high octane gas can damage the fuel lines and/or the catalytic converters....not that it would matter since I have NEVER seen a station with any race type gas in Georgia [although we are luckier than you Cali folks to have 93 octane as our Premium gas!]

Derek, Pete : Thanks, I'll check it out. I've wondered how long the place in Woodside would continue to have gas, given that 76 doesn't supply it anymore...

Cole, with the NA's, I think a mixture of 100 and 91 will net you around the 93 Porsche recommends and your 993 will run it's best. If you run straight 100, I don't think you will see any benefits.

Of course, with a TT, the story changes!

With a 19 gallon tank, 4.5 gallons of 100 with the balance at 91 octane will yield 93.1 octane.

If you choose to run 100 octane all the time, you could get a chip/software upgrade to take advantage of it, but running less than 100 could cause damage to the motor due to detonation.

i just put in a few gallons of 100 octane at the 76 station on San Vincente in Brentwood/ West LA. I asked the manager about the discontinuation of selling the 100 octane there. He said they have recently switched distributors, and are still doing some negotiating with that new partner. He said they will have the 100 for the short term for sure, and are working on keeping it available.

That is the one John, on the corner of Bundy and San Vicente. Just gave the beast a major taste. At $5.93 a gallon, it ain't cheap! Happy Thanksgiving to John D. and all you Rennlisters. Be well, be safe and drive hard!

Okay, here's the lowdown on Bob Reed's place. He has 1 and 3/4 55 gallons tanks of 104. He is asking for $6.85/gallon and is probably going to stop selling it. He was just inspected and he is only allowed to keep 50/100 (dont remember exactly) galllons on site at any given time.

He does not have an underground tank for this stuff so that's a) why it's more expensive and b) he is only allowed such a small quantity. He is willing to keep selling it but he says it's only going to go up (probably $8/gallon). He does not have access to 100 octance just 104 and 110.

I think I paid $5.25 a gallon for the RUL (Research Unleaded) at ERC fuels 2 weeks ago. It's 104.5 octane. ERC is in San Lorenzo and you must bring a container, they can not pump into your gas tank. They will sell 5 gallon plastic or provide (with deposit) 18 or 55 gallon steel drums.
