In my ignorance, I thought the GT2 was based on a narrow bodied car. That appears to be a widebody. Am I incorrect? I am guessing this car is original. Thanks for the pics! Maybe I'll be able to make my own replica someday.

Remember the GT2 was originally a race car. Porsche added the fender extensions for larger race wheels. When Porsche porduced the few street cars, the fender extensions stayed.

He's a lucky guy to own such a beautiful car.

I always thought that in order to get racing homologation, Porsche had to build the street GT2, same as the GT3RS and RSR.

Jean, I left Bahrain the other day... Im a little bit mad 'cause I wanted to stay just a few days more to watch the GT events on the 25th.. are you gonna be there? I wonder if Ziad finally got his TT.

I'm expecting Brian(the owner of the GT2 pictured above) to come in this post soon and answer your's and the other guy's questions. I'm not an expert with these cars. All I know is if and when I hit the lottery I will have 7 of them in different colors for each day of the week

regards

For road version of 993 GT2, there were 2 models . 95 -97 993 GT2 430hp 398 lbs/ft torque and 98 spec 993 GT2 Evo 450hp 432 lbs/ft torque. each model also got a club sport version .There were 172 units 95-97 993 GT2 and 21 unts of 98 spec. 993 GT2 were made. I am under the understanding that homologation requires 100.

You're correct. The road going GT2 was produced for homologation purposes that would qualify it for the GT2 category in the Lemans 24 hour race in 1995.
Here's a site with further info

Friggin' A W E S O M E! I don't wish I could make my paint shine like that, I'd much rather wish it would read GT2 in my car's registration...

FYI, GT2 was based on wide body.

Mike,

Too bad you already left and I didn't get a chance to meet you. I got busy and been traveling the whole week, I am in Dubai and going to Khobar on Wednesday (across the causeway), so I will try to make it to Bahrain, but it is a bit tight.

Keep in touch and let me know if you ever come back to this part of the world.

Bryan (Bkcsr), is that you the owner of the GT2? You are a very lucky man and those wheels look fantastic.

I guess to clarify what I was saying is I thought the GT2 body was fender extensions on a narrow-bodied car. This appears to have the widebody side skirts with the fender extensions. Did they ever offer a factory car with the fender extensions on narrow-bodied sheetmetal?

Hi Jean. Yes it's me. The wheels are 3 piece BBS centerlock that came from the shop (Porsche Motorsports). I'm trying to locate another set to purchase together with tires.

Bryan

As I learn about these cars, none are street legal for the US and would only be allowed for track use. Is that correct ?
