anyone have a suggestion to loosen the brake lines for replacement? while changing the pads and rotors, i thought i would do the lines as well. after spending an inordinate amount of time trying to break the nut, i bagged it and finished the main job. there isn't any corrosian that i can see.
Do yourself a huge favor and get some flair-wrenches. These are designed just for what you are doing. Hopefully you havent boogered(sp?) the hex up too much.
thanks.....i have standard flare wrenches. (i should get some metric)....unfortunately, the lines are pretty seized. i tried some penetrating oil on the threads, and i hope that may loosen them up.
i was working on the rears, and the chassis connection was giving me the problem. when i did the fronts, i thought i would try both the caliper and the chassis connection. neither wanted to cooperate, so rather than damage the fittings, i bagged it. i'll keep fiddlling with it, and talk to my mechanic about it. on the other hand, i could just wait until he's got the car for something and say, "while you're at it......"
I recently replaced my lines with StopTech stainless braided ones. A couple of the fittings were not cooperating. I used vice-grip locking pliers, use a tight grip and a sharp tap with a hammer to break 'em free. Having the penetrating oil on and soaking will help when you attack again. By the way since the lines are being replaced, I was not too concerned about chewing up the nuts.
I am installing ss hoses and I will be replacing at least one metal line! (one previously replaced earlier this season) the corrosion was not visable. This job requires patience and the correct tools (lots of them). I love removing the U shaped clips that secure the hoses to the chassis.
Since I removed the calipers to repair and refinish it just made sense to do ss lines as well! e
