Question Cost of oil change

Just wondering what some of you have paid for the routine oil change with both filters replaced? I know that most DIY, and I would have except for my lack of time right now. I got varying prices from independent shops and the dealer from $90 to $322. Not sure if the shop that quoted me the low price knew what they were doing. (I may just make the time with prices that high.)
Btw, I did check Robin's site documenting maintenance history of the DX and only saw one dealer oil change for $58? DIY is the way to go.

TIA

My mechanic charges only $25 for the actual labor of changing the oil. Since I don't bring in my own Mobil 1 case of oil, my total bill for an oil and filter (only the main filter. Secondary filter only gets changed every 30k) comes out to around $90.

Also, he does it while I wait - another great convenience factor.

I've changed oil in cars all my life, and this is a cheap price to pay to not deal with this hassle..

Sam,

When I first purchased the car, I had the Porsche dealership in Louisville change the oil for me. They charged $155:

- $7.75/qt Mobil-1 x 11 qts = $85
- 993.107.203.03 = $11.20
- 993.207.201.02 = $18.58
- Labor = $40

I now do changes myself, as I've done with my previous cars for 16 years. Parts costs (from Phil Anderson at Suncoast Porsche) total $55:

- 993.107.203.03 = $7.53
- 993.207.201.02 = $12.08
- Washers = $1.00
- Two 5 qt. jugs of Mobil-1 15W-50 from Walmart = $34

$100 is not a tremendous amount of money, but it's an easy job and I enjoy "bonding" with my car (and knowing that the job was done correctly). You're basically paying yourself $50 - 100 / hour to do it yourself, plus you don't have to deal with waiting at the dealership, etc.

Anir,

Thanks for the information. I think you're right. Time to borrow some scrubs and get underneath the car and DIY. Dealerships are getting on my nerves.
