Default Anyone have experience with European Collectables in Costa Mesa & Hergesheimer??

Anyone purchase a car from them before? What conditions are their cars in? How firm are they on their price? How is their service department if they even have one? Recommendations on where to take for PPI?

Thanks
Don

If that is what you are looking for I'm not sure they woulod be the best for PPI...????

I think they would do great but maybe not know all the little tricks to look for if it is a 356 ?????????????

We bought one of our current 356's from European Collectables. It was in touring class concours condition. E.C. sell cars that are everything from full concours quality to beater/bondo/fixer uppers. Chris has always been extremely honest with us concerning the condition of the 356's we were intersted in. Having said that, get a PPI done NO MATTER WHAT you are told to confirm it. This goes for buying a Porsche from anyone. European Collectables is known mainly for thier huge selection of 356's and an occasional early 911, 993, 996 etc. They have their own resotation shop for mainly 356's. If you are looking for PPI on a 993, we agree with ParadiseNB go to Hergesheimer in Lake Forest or Gary Topal at Werks II in Huntington Beach. As for PPI's in L.A. County (South Bay), I'm partial to Tony Callas and the guys at Callas Rennsport For our PPI on the 356 we had Peter McNulty and Jack Staggs (two well known 356 Guru's) do it for us. You really should only have 356 specialists do PPI's for you on 356's. Not that Mark or Gary can't, it's just that old timers really know everything about the model. As for the price: sometimes E.C. deals and sometimes they don't. Depends on whether it is a consigned car or one that they own or have restored themselves. Never hurts to make them an offer. All they can say is yes or no. PM me if you have more questions

JoAnne

All:

Thanks for the replies. Yes, looking for a 993 C2 or C2S. Consensus seems to be Hergesheimer for PPI on late model cars. Thanks!!!

Wasn't this the guy who owned all the cars on the transporter that was hit by a train a month or two ago? He also had a real nice 'outlaw' for sale for a while.

Yes he is the lucky one. We just emailed each other a few days ago. Everything is still tied up in Litigation and may be for three months to three years. Who knows how things will end up.....

This Black Speedster was the owners personal car and was not for sale. He had just completed the restoration. He reportedly spend over $150,000 on the restoration. It WAS a real beauty. Hard to imagine Robert was sitting in it just the day before....

More of the cars. It was so terrible. The red coupe and the 911 were just purchased by EC at the show.....

We flew out to European collectibles about a year ago and bought a 356 cab that they restored. My customer bought it I mean. The guys were very professional and anything we found not satisfactory was handled there and then they shipped the car to us. Great guys.

All:

Thanks for the Hergesheimer recommendation!!! I talked to Laura; she was a class act; very helpful; spent more than 20 minutes with me discussing 993 maintenance issues. Call her if you have 993 questions or need a PPI.

If any of you So. Cal. members know of a 993 for sale please let me know. Looking for a 1996-98 C2,C2S, or 4S, coupe, 6-sp, silver ext or light color. Feel free to email me at ttsac@yahoo.com at any leads.

Thanks!!!!

Don-
Have to second the Laura@Hergesheimer recommendation. I just bought a 98 C2S in LA and had Hergesheimer do the PPI--they were great! Previous owner did not do the smog check--since mechanicals checked out OK & I asked Hergesheimer if there were any indications of carbon buildup, I bought it & drove 400 miles same day. Yesterday, took it for smog and it cleared with flying colors with 42,000 miles on odometer. With all the talk about carbon buildup and valve guide wear I would investigate this thoroughly.

Good luck with your search. I found mine on autotrader but kept close eye on Rennlist classifieds.
Cheers, Brad
