Question Need help with Part numbers.....

I'm just trying to fix a few little things on the cab and I can't seem to find the part numbers for the following doo hickies...

This one is completely broken

This one is cracked and will be gone soon. They look exactly the same but right and left.

Can anyone help ID these parts???

Thanks,
JoAnne

Did you search PET for "doo-hickeys"? Maybe that would turn something up

The same part on my car is cracked too, though I haven't lost any chunk of it. If someone else can chime in, great. If not, I'll check PET for you when I get home tonight.

According to PET, Doo-Hickey is part number:

Left - 911 555 421 00 01C
Right - 911 555 422 00 01C
Screw - N 014 093 3

Good Luck!

Glad to see that my car is not the only one to have this issue.
Must have been a "feature" of 98 cabs.

.... and not the only 'feature' of a '98 cab. So far everthing has been an easy fix. Now my top is making strange cable sounds. It never made a single sound until after the window switch (another famous 'feature') went out. The cable on the passenger side is making a funny twinging sound. Oh boy...... looks like more fun times in our garage!! Wanna come play with us??

Must be a common feature across the model years... as mine are broken on a '96 C2.

And the real reason I called them a "doo-hickey" was because that's the best name I could think for them... it had nothing to do with you calling them a doo-hickey first ! LOL

MS -

No strange cable noise here yet - every finger crossed.

Would love to come see your garage but with a new job its going to be a while before that is a possibility.

The Parts are only flimsy cheap plastic. They can't possibly be expensive to replace... Can they??

I'll let you know tomorrow what the replacement cost is. Since they seem to break so easily AND if they are cheap I'll buy a few extras and stick them in the glove box along with the spare window switch, the spare DME relay and the spare fuses. Have I left any important spares out of my glove box that you know of??

LOL back at cha!!! Everything is a doo-hickey or a thingamajig until I know the real name for it. Porsche has lots of doo-hickey's and thingamajig's!

JoAnne

PS: Howdy Howard - You know you guys have a standing invitation. Come up ANY TIME you can make it!!!
I'll Let you know what the cable sounds is when we figure it out. It's just funny that we didn't have any sounds at all from the top until we had the switch problem. Right now I'm afraid to take the top down. What if it doesn't go back up? Then what? Drive 4 1/2 hours to Plano with the top down in NOVEMBER??? I don't think so......

Man I'm glad to see the part #'s listed here. I spent 20 minutes with my local stealer's parts man and he just couldn't seem to find the right part on the PET. We finally got it right but it was a headache for such a small, poorly made piece. Thanks Randy M.

That's too bad that you spent so much time looking for the parts.
I walked into my dealer in Plano, mentioned briefly what I was looking for, and
before I could finish my description he reached into a drawer and pulled both out both items.

I was told this is a very common item for breakage.

HTH,
Scott

Very Common. I have replaced them and they are already broke again. They are just so cheap. Maybe we should have a Carbon Fiber version made and do a group buy on that. Nah, I just buy two sets and keep the spares handy!

Do you think that they might be breaking because the screws are being tighten too much? Metal into plastic... Metal wins all the time

Carbon fiber would be cool too, wouldn't it?? Good idea!!
