Using my C2 993 Cab in the snow - no way!

I must have been foolish last year to think that I was going to take my 993 Cab out in the snow. I even went out and purchased 17 inch Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-22s mounted on Mille Miglia Cup 3 wheels. TireRack price of over $1,600 plus shipping. After putting on less than 1,000 miles in cold but clear weather, I have realized that I need to re-think my reasons for buying the snow tire set up.
Am I the only one who believes that C2 993 Cabs deserve a winter hybernation? When I see white stuff, salt and reckless driving of others when common sense should prevail, I just say....no way! That is why I have two other cars to use.
So, my snows are on ebay and let the C4 coupe drivers have a run with them.

I just say NO (to that issue anyway
). But I imagine others drive theirs on the snow and ice. Here, the 993 doesn't really have enough clearance to role over the deep snow, slush and ice chunks effectively. I use my truck for that....(formally used a Cayenne S for that....but that's a whole different story and board).

I'm a believer that as 993 owners, we're merely temporary custodians of a driving legend. To drive it in sand and salt is nearly criminal.

Actually he's the second
the guy I bought my C4S from in Boston had a set of snows.....which is why everything thats not galvanized is rusted up nicely. Don't drive it in the snow and salt!

please, please please do not use a 993 without snow tires .. it is very dangerous.
im sure it is driveable with snow tires, but while im not a supporter of garage queens, im not a supporter of letting the car rust and corrode.

I cannot explain why I bought the snows. Maybe it was the guilt that came over me. I use the car so infrequently since I commute to Manhattan by mass transit and have other cars to do errands. So last year, I bought the Blizzaks and committed to begin using the 993 during the WINTER!!! So when the tires arrived, I carefully installed them on the car, and then parked the 993 in the garage and under its cover. Does this insanity make sense to any of you? My guess is that many of you can appreciate my illness and might even have some of it yourselves.

Snow tires are going on the C4S next week. Life is short...the car is a blast in the winter and snow...give the undercarriage a good rinsing as often as you can during the week. Enjoy~! Its a car that is meant to be enjoyed...

My 993 C4 goes great in the snow, with snow tires, given that the plow's been through. On regular summer tires, even the C4 is dangerous in the snow. I drive in the winter because I believe that cars, like skiis, are meant to be enjoyed (within reason).

Snow tyres are not for snow and ice, only. They are preferable in any kind of cold weather, particularly when temperatures drop to close to freezing point. Which is the case for the best part of December through February in this part of the world.
So if you want to move your PS on a cold, but sunny and dry winter day, snow tyres are a must. And I totally disagree that wear and tear is that excessive, as long as keep the car snug in a garage overnight. And wash it regularly, as advised above.
Of course, the odd Monte Carlo intermezzo on a Sunday morning in the countryside doesn't hurt car or driver, either...

I used mine in snow last year.. was a little hairy but considering that I had no choice, it was still fun. Many cars I saw eating telegraph poles, fences and other cars were all FWD with skinny tyres.. I faired much better.

Sorry guys-I could not even fathom driving in the snow-especially around New England. It's not the snow that's damaging it's the gravel, sand and salt that's left on the highways. You will trash your car's paint and cause premature corrosion. If this is OK with you-then have a ball. Pathetic or not, my quality of life improves when I know I'm not trashing my car-
