Yeah great thread guys! I had seen Robert's cleaning procedures on Robin's site but I had totally missed the adjustment thread in April.
Maybe this thread should be part of Robin's site or even a Faq on the 993 forum could be created with great threads like that.

Now that the LWF problem seems to be under control...damn I thought my mods list was getting shorter!

Bill:

Your stalling symptoms would likely be the
result of a dirty Idle Stabilizer Valve.
After cleaning the ISV, you have the option
to adjust it for improving the idle performance.
I posted a procedure " Idle Stabilizer Valve
adjustable" back in April. So far, everyone
who has made the adjustment has had positive
results, including a couple of P-car shops in
my area. If you choose to make the ISV
adjustment, carefully follow the posted
procedure and you should be able to make the adjustment with minimal time and frustration factor.

All the best,

Thanks for all the advice and support. I removed the ISV last night and found it to be pretty clean and the valve blade rotated easily. NO buildup of sludge or anything like that. I doubt the valve itself is a problem. However, the worm gear clamps were pretty loose suggesting it had been out before for some reason. I am not sure there wasn't some air leakage, they were that loose. So I reinstalled the valve and tightened them properly.

Although the car is an admitted garage queen, once I get it heated up I do hit red line, and if I get out of town I usually see triple digits. So carbon buildup is not too likely. Idle speed adjustment and plug check/replace are certainly to be considered.

If my experience is as noted above, I.E. it never happens again, I won't be surprised.(Nor upset!)

Thanks again. If I find any concrete problem in the future I will post it for reference.

I posted a link to the ISV adjustment thread above, but here it is again: <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002968" target="_blank">Idle stabilizer valve adjustable</a>

If this doesn’t answer all your questions, let me know and I’ll try to help more. I should have taken pictures of my ISV adjustment for a DIY on Robin’s site, but didn’t think of it. Perhaps someone can do that.

I have an early build ’95 and I haven’t had any stalling problems, except when I had a real light flywheel. I have a chip which was supposed to prevent the stalling, but it didn’t. I had that flywheel exchanged for Andial’s mid-weight version and the stalling went away. Sometime after that, I learned about the ISV adjustment, which made even more improvements.
