Whats wrong with SO-3's?

Based mainly on Vikens opions expressed in other threads I feel like I should get the SO-2a's, even though I like the looks of the SO-3's better and the SO-3 seem to have better tread life. I hope I am making the right choice. For me 10,000 miles is a looong time to wait.

How are you liking your C4? To answer your question, I'd project about 25k miles for the S02As on my 360, really amazing mileage considering how I drive (evil grin). I don't know how they'd do on a P-car. The 360 wears out tires very evenly front to rear (brake pads too, interestingly), unlike the Porsches I've owned.

I have SO-2a's on my car and I am very happy with them in the damp, wet, dry, wet, dry, damp conditions encountered daily here in Oregon. So far about 7000 miles on them and lots of tread remaining (one DE day; one autocross). FYI ... Costco has SO-3's available ... $840 for 17" and $1000 for 18" ... just for reference sake. My 2c.

Hello everyone,
Since we are talking about tires, i was just wondering does anyone have Continental CS2 tyres? They do not seem popular with this forum. In Asia, they are very popular among porsche owners. They are also N rated, so they definitely meet porsche factory requirements. Does anyone care to shed some light?
Thank you in advance.

Tom97C4S - I use Michelin Pilot Sport Cups 235/40 and 295/30/18s on factory 8s and 10s. The fit fine, though the 8" front wheels are marginal. Should really use 8.5s.
Paradisenb - My S03s also flat spot easily. Didn't have that problem with the old S02s. I agree that it's very annoying. Mine vibrate between 50 and 60 when cold.

I put new SO3s on my car 6500 miles ago. I do spirited street driving and also did (1) track day on these and the rears have just been replaced. The fronts look good. I do have a MAJOR complaint about these tires
. The first 500-750 on these tires miles is almost dangerous because the tread squirm is horrible. The car feels as if your riding on 3 inch tall tread...and the sideways motion in turns is awful...very unsettling. It was awful when I first installed the new set 6500 miles ago and then went away after about 750 miles. After that, they handled great and I really I loved them. So when I got the new rears about 150 miles ago, the tread squirm was so bad, I thought the tire guy had forgotten to tighten the lugs....or the alignment had gotten wacked somehow. I know it's the tires, because after about the miles get on the tires, it handles like a dream. So when the fronts finally wear out, I won't get SO3s again. My car is not safe for spirited driving at this point. I guess I need to find a parking lot somewhere and do some donuts to get some wear on the rears so I can start enjoying my car again. For the record, I have a 97 narrowbody, running Turbo Twist hollow spokes, 225/40x18 fronts @ 36psi, 285/30x18 rears @40psi, PSS-9s, 22mmF/21mmR sways, lowered to Euro Sport height...oh yeah...RSR mufflers

These tires seem to be the replacement tires of choice by Porsche dealers here in the states. Mostly on the 996 cars. I think they came with them originally or Porsche and the dealers have a deal with Continental. Don't know anything about them.
