"Pedro's Ice Wax " for the windshield squeek?

RE: "Why do OUR cars have this minor, yet annoying, trait while other 911s don't. I am thinking specifically of a friend's 78SC. Maybe his car was just louder overall, thus muting any minor squeeks, I don't know."
I recently had my windshield replaced and asked
this question of both my mechanic and the
glass guy. Both told me that the 993 was the
first 911 that counted on the windshield as
part of the structure.
The manual is not definitive on this. But, the
windshield is literally glued into place and
there is a warning not to drive the car for three
hours after replacement. The glass guy insisted on 8 hours when he did my car.

Thanks Tom,
I placed an order already (the spay bottle).
I'd like to wait & see how much these noises will go down after I install the strut brace but I guess I'll have to lubricate first, we'll see.

Kim:
You local dealer is mistaken, mine is outright baffled by this issue! I am on my second 993, both have had severe squeaking on their original windshields. It is far worse in the cold and in high humidity--you lucky guys in CA and AZ probably never hear a peep!
I have the cord fix, but have not installed it yet. Thanks for the ice wax idea guys!
BTW, Porsche strut brace had zero impact on my squeaks.

I am curious, is this foam cord that is being used the same thing that builders use to fill in gaps to then silicone over or stucco over? I know it by the name 'Backer Rod'.
I have always put off going after the squeak because with the stereo on I really don't hear it.
But if this is the same foam cord I have a lot of I might as well go ahead and put it in with Pedro.

Yes, where does one get the foam tape you're referring to? I'm getting ready to have the rear windshield replaced on mine and I want to do whatever I can (Pedro's Ice Wax AND the foam tape?) to do away with any squeaking.
Or is the answer to crank up "Radar Love" to 110 db?

It's gone!
I lubricated with the "Pedro's ice wax" spray(although, I'm sure pretty much any same type of lubricant would do the same thing, I'd say motocross chain spray would at least last there the longest) and now it's quiet!
Good thing with this product is that the straw is very small.
I tried over speed bumps sideway etc. and no squeaking!
Installation took about 5 min. the straw that comes with the bottle is very small that it was easy to push it between the windscreen & seal and then just spray.

Happy to report a definite improvement with Strut Brace and Pedro's Ice Wax.
It appears from other reading that the definitive cure is a silicon/styrofoam rope....Anybody try this, and how did you get it in between the glass and window seal ?

Also happy to report that Pedro's ice wax stopped the dreaded windshield squeak cold on my 96 993. I have purchased (for additional insurance)but not yet installed both a strut tower brace and teflon rope from Schatz. In the Schatz package is a Porsche bulletin recommending a change out to an upgraded outer weather seal for both front and rear glass. Has anyone done this? and do you think it was necessary?

Happy to report Pedro's Iced Wax in the spray can really works! It is a easy 15 minutes DIY and I would say 99% of the most annoying squeaking and creaking noises from the windshield and back window are GONE! GONE! GONE!
