Post 993 workshop manuals vs. PET cd-rom

I know the "PET" cd-rom is somewhat illegal and it's hard to get. But hey, if there's a will there's a way...right?

Here are my questions:

Are workshop manuals and PET cd-rom the same? or different?

What do they each contain?

Would you guys suggest getting both or just one? If so, which one?

My objective is to have a better understanding of the workings of our 993's and ordering the correct parts without sounding like a fool...

Thank you for your input and info.

they are pretty different.

The PET cd contains parts diagrams and part numbers. This is useful if you wnat to figure out how something fits together or the parts # to order from.

The shop manuals detail procedures, ie, changing oil, replacing turbos, recommended services, torque specs, etc, etc.

Since they serve different purposes, I would get both.

You can get a copy of the shop manuals on ebay, pca, or your local swap meets. You can also buy them new at www.my-porsche.com As for the PET cd, do an archive search to find out how to obtain one.

Yes, there is, but they are not authorized copies. People sell these on rennlist classifieds and ebay all the time for around $30.

Again, check the archives on this one. You can obtain the workshop manuals on cdrom the same way that you obtain the PET cd.

Before you pay someone for a pirated PET-CD copy (for commercial gain), some here are willing to send you a copy at no charge.

a new user with the name "petcd". hmm, not too obvious...

PK, send me your address, i'll mail you a PET cd...

i have no problem giving away copies of PET, i'd never sell it. since the dealer doesn't even sell it, they're not losing money...

Hi David,
I’d like one of these CDs, but on one condition. I need to at least pay you for the blank CD and your shipping costs. Let me know what this comes to and your address, and I’ll send you a check. When the check clears, you can send the CD. Take the NO SPAM out of my e-mail address before you e-mail me.

Thanks,
Tom

Dave,

Thank you for your kind offer. Like Tom, I also felt that you should be compensated for the cost of the blank cd and postage at least. Please let me know where to send my check.

Thanks again.

PS You have a private message.

I went to use my repair manual CD, and Volume VI, Sections 94 & 96 (electrical) are not there. The person who I got it from has the same problem.

Does anyone have this section?

Hi Dave,

Received it yesterday afternoon. Thanks! Now I just have to wait for my Factory Workshop Manuals to arrive and I'll be dangerous!
