Post 993 Rollbar

I have recently purchased a 993 coupe and will be required to have a 5 point harness for a future PCA event. I am concidering a rollbar for the added safety benefits rather than a harness guide bar or truss(BK), but want to have access to the rear seats occationally. Does anyone know of or have used any that will allow access to the seats possibly via a removable crossbar and/or harness bar?

By the way, Hi DJ if you read this. The ride in your 993 at Buttonwillow with TracQuest
was the nail in the coffin for me purchasing this car. I was driving the white '91 BMW M5 that weekend.

Hey David,

Welcome with the new car. I think this very topic came up a few weeks ago, might try a search (Mark are you out there ). Also might have been the racing rennlist board, so you might want to check there.

As a side note since you didn't really ask, my car is getting fitted for a proper roll bar now at OG Racing in virginia. I am getting a good deal since my car is the guinea pig. Anyway, It is not going to mount on the not so strong seat belt bolts, but to a peice of welded steel on the floor and the rear sides. Should make for a very safe bar. I have been told then when I take it out for the off season, I will be able to pull the carpet back up and it will look stock. Hopefully I will have it back this weekend for some pics etc...

No matter what you choose, it is wise to be safe. I tought about it long and hard this winter and I have been lucky for almost 12 years on the track. Now these cars are faster than any street cars I have driven at the track and I am 30 and married and different things are important now. Hence the roll bar and not just the harness bar. Please take it easy on me for that last part guys.

E. J.

E.J.,
Thank you for your advice. I just spoke to DAS and they made a very good point about having a rollbar of any sorts with removable crossbars and passengers in back (note:very small passengers). With a bar in place, if there were ever an impact the passengers could possible make contact with the bar.

I will go with the BK harness guide for now. I have checked out your site and will use those instructions. By the way, are you selling your harness guide? I thought that I saw something to that effect somewhere.

Hey David,

Congratulations on the new car. I'm glad to have been able to bring you back from the Dark Side.

Are you going to be at Thunderhill next week?
