Danny,

The autobahn offers the chance to really see what the P car can do in a straight line. (not too many curves) It always brings a big smile to the face to hold the throttle flat - and leave it there! I do not envy being restricted to 55 - 70 mph - almost a good excuse to come the Germany for holidays isn't it.

BTW I will look for a 340 mm (Gert in Belgium)to give my knees a break at the slalom events.

Andrew, just want to make sure you know the Sparco Evo II are real race seats, you won't like 'em on the street. The novelty wore off for me after a few weeks and now I switch em out each time. What a pain. Anyway, I bolt mine directly to the floor with custom made side mounts and my helmet doesn't hit the headliner (about an inch clearance). With your head that close to the roof, you should do a roll bar too. Oh yea, forgot to mention that I have more room in the MOMOs too. Go figure.

If I knew then what I know now, I would do this: I would buy the MOMO seats Greg Fishman has, I think they are the acropolis, but you should check with him to be sure. They are also real race seats. But somehow, he has them on sliders and keeping the cushions in (I remove em on the EVO II) I have MORE headroom in the MOMOs than the Sparcos. I cant explain it since the shell of the sparcos is set so low it almost touches the floor, but it's true. Maybe as you slide it backwards, you can mount the seat itself lower on the side bracket. I am not sure.

Now if you're looking for street/track seats, you should look at the Sparco Milanos or some other seat designed for that.

Andrew and others,

As an FYI to followup E.J.'s post, here is a pic that compares the stock seats, Sparco Evo 2s, and Sparco Torinos in my Boxster:



All of these are on sliders, with the Sparcos using Sparco sliders plus a custom bracket. Oddly, the Torinos offer the most headroom of the three, despite the fact that the Evo 2's bottom cushion can be taken out. This jibes with what E.J. says, and I can't explain it either.

The Torinos are also a bit wider and flatter than stock, but with higher side bolsters. The result is that I end up with a more comfortable seat than stock, but with better lateral grip. The Torinos also make it easy to use a harness, while retaining the stock belts for street use. While I was able to use the stock belts with the Evo 2s, the strap didn't come across my chest at an angle that felt as secure as I like.

The Boxster is actually a bit wider inside than the 993, but there isn't as much room fore-and-aft. In the Boxster I kept all three seats nearly all the way back for street use, moving them forward a bit for the track. In the 993 I can barely reach the pedals with the seats all the way back. I'm 6'1", with a long torso, so others may have a different experience.

I'd go for either the Torinos or Milanos for combination street/track use. As E.J. says, the Evo 2s aren't much fun for day-to-day use.

The unfortunate aspect about, at least the Milano's anyway, is that they don't have accomodation for 5 and 6 point harnesses. I was considering the Milano's until I heard this, as I plan on using 6 points in my car. I'll be opting for a pair of full race shells, the Recaro Pole Positions.

Matt, I use a 6 point with my standard seats. I use the clip-on style from Schroth using the brey-krause clips and it works great. Something to think...
