Post PSS-9 suspension or other questions.....

Pulled from my earlier post in a different thread. I have re-posted since the other thread was more about RUF:

Hey guys,
If I am interested in autocrossing and tracking my 993 Carrera 2 cab on weekends, which set-up is best?
I currently have the original shocks with the H&R lowering springs. I could just get the Bilstein HD's (like Robin has tested) to match up with my existing springs, or I could opt for one of the PSS-9 set-ups.

Which do ya'll think is best? What are the differences in the PSS-9 set-ups that I saw on Gert's page? He seems to have three or so options.

Thanks again.

Also, being a cab, should I add the front brace to add stability? If so, which brand do you guys prefer? THanks - <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Hey Robert,
FWIW, I switched from your exact setup to the PSS-9 your thinking of in my 95 coupe. I hit the track this weekend and immediately (first couple laps of the very first session) started runs at my fastest times of the previous event and a second faster. I'm not sure my tires were up to the task anymore as I found (today I had them replaced) they were deteriorating on the inside and the grip just wasn't up to pace? But, the handling on and off track is vastly improved. I noticed it on the street more than anything. What ever you do, get rid of those old shocks with the H&R springs, IMO they are only good for lowering your car for looks. Well, that's not entirely true, there is an improvement on the track over stock but not like a full coilover.

As for the options, you can get them with or without swaybars, good for reducing the body roll and adjusting understeer/oversteer characteristics.

Good Luck,
Dylan.

Robert,
I rode in Rick's Cab with pSS9's on the track and street and I think it is a great suspension. Not too harsh but firm enough to know what is happening at each corner. I actually think it rides better than my stock suspension. I don't think you can go wrong with either suspension, I think it mainly depends on if you want to pay the extra price for the adjustability or not. I would be afraid that the H&R springs might be too soft for the HD shocks. I would think the factory M030's would match up better, maybe Gert can give you some insight into that.

I would add the front brace, get the factory one from Gert at the same time.

Can I expect to see you in Indy for a DE or two this fall?

I installed the H&R coilover kit with the M030 sway's from Gert and I'm really pleased overall with the system. It definately rides better than my old stock on the street and on the track it is light years ahead... It has a bit softer spring rates than the PSS-9 and you do not get the shock adjustment if that is important to you. Personally I could not be happier with the system so I do recommend it.

I have a 98 C2S and went with the Bilsteins and the H&R's. Could'nt be happier, the street ride is great, firmer than stock, but not harsh as to blow the CD player too often. When pushing it in spirited driving the H&R's seem to give the needed stiffness without being unbearable. I think the ideal setup might be the PSS-9 adjustablity with the H&R comfort. Sometimes it would be nice to dial it up another 10-15% in dampening w/o sacrificing the streetablity of the ride. Anything is better than the crummy Monroes that were in for the stock shocks. Very dissapointed in them.

Hi Robert

You may also wish to consider the RoW M030 w/ Bilstein HD set up as this will keep the car "stock" Porsche so to speak. As my familiarity w/ SCCA rules is limited and our cars fall in the "A stock" category other suspension mods probably would put you in some modified category. I guess it is time to buy the rule book...da! The one shortcoming of the above mentioned suspension is the ability to lower the car sufficently in the front as well documented in previous threads. Viken has elegantly solved this problem W/o cutting the coils and I would be happy to share his solution if interested. I may ultimately choose to lower more in the front but as it is currently I'm not scraping the front in daily around town driving.
