Post look of RUF steering wheel on 993

i was wondering if you have seen one on a 993, does it fit in well w/the stock black interior design, does the finish look factory, and how is the spacing to the driver relative to the stock 4 spoke?

Doc,

I don't know about the RUF SW, but I just installed the AJ-USA #AJR-348-090 911 GT Sport Steering Wheel (three spoke with airbag) to replace the original 4 spoke on my car. The AJ-USA SW looks identical to the RUF SW on the Weissach website - but the AJ-USA SW is $200 less. My paperwork on my SW is at home but I think the manufacturer is Aiken(?) in Germany. My guess is that Weissach and AJ-USA sell the exact same SW.

You can see a good photo of the SW on the AJ-USA website. They are EXCELLENT to deal with. Very helpful.

My car is Classic Gray interior and the black SW against the black dashboard fascia and dark gray interior looks great. The AJ-USA SW is beautifully made and really looks and feels like it belongs in the car. Love the horn buttons too, now you can actually blow the horn w/o searching all over the SW.

I installed the Porsche crest, like in the AJ-USA picture. This three spoke SW is slightly smaller in diameter than the stock four spoke (3/4"?) and this bothered me at first. Now I'm getting used to it. This smaller SW does tend to hide some parts of the instrument cluster, though. I guess it depends on your height and where you set-up your seat. You may want to qualify with a supplier their return policy on the SW in case you can't live with the smaller dia.

If you'd like, I'd be glad to take and email a couple of photos of my new SW. I can do it this evening. Just let me know.

As a side note, a comment about RUF and Weissach. I ordered a RUF rear-spoiler module back in February. This module is the one to change the extension and retraction speeds of the rear-spoiler. Two months later and two separate shipments and they STILL cannot supply me a module that is correct. The ones that they have shipped me both work identical to the stock module. They did have the "RUF" label on them, but I didn't feel like that was worth $269. The only thing that Weissach was able to do correctly wa charge my cc immediately on receipt of my order back in February - three weeks prior to receiving the first (incorrect) rear-spoiler module. I gave up and sent back the second module for credit. My point is that you may get better customer service from AJ-USA. I won't deal with Weissach again.

Email me if you want some photos of this SW.

A month ago I e-mailed "RUF Weissach" inquiring on the prices for a pedal set, dead pedal and short shifter. Never did get a reply. They've lost any business from me!!

I would recommend the TechArt steering wheel I have installed on my cabrio. Fit and finish equal to factory, you can custom order it in full leather, stiching etc. It's smaller, 340mm, which for taller guys is a God sent gift. No more knee banging. I think this wheel is the most egronomic and quality aibag wheel in the market. It's not cheap but it was money well spend.
You can see pictures of it in my Rennlist Albums, through the link on my signature.

steve,
they're pretty bad about answering emails... In fact their tech support isn't even the best either.
call them and look for their boss... then you'll hear some feet shuffling around.

I've ordered from Weissach last month. They are very easy to deal with.
Ask for Andrew...he promptly answered every single one of my concern/e-mail.

Steve,

Not trying to be an ongoing advertisement for AJ-USA, but you mentioned that you were looking for a pedal set. The set that AJ-USA sells (AJ-USA Competition Style Billet Aluminum Pedal Set #AJR-423-113) is excellent and very reasonably priced.

One great feature is that the new aluminum accelerator pedal is a complete hinged replacement assembly. Very nice and pretty easy to install. I like the looks of mine a lot. I installed the dead pedal too.

It's the only set I've seen that replaces the gas pedal, including a new hinge assembly. IMO that gives it a better feel, as well as look.

The AJ Pedals ARE very nice. I had them on my SC and it's only a matter of time (read--disposable $$$'s) until I have them for the 993.
ps no affiliation.
on the other hand no one has EVER offered me any $$$ for affilitation so I don't know how I'd react...
