Default Steve Weiner Chip

Hi all,

Been gone for a while, but now I'm back I'm thinking of chipping the car. Anyone know where I can get more info on the Weiner chip?

What car are you going to Chip? I didn't think you could chip 993s after 1995.
Can I chip my 98?

The 96's are the hardest and most expensive to chip, but they can be done. 95's are the cheapest. 97-98 are chippable but not as pricey as the 96's.

just give Steve a call!

He did my reprogramming for my 96 (you have to BUY a 97 or 98 ECU first) so my option was the most expensive

I'm planning on chipping a '97 Carrera. The Rennsport Systems site shows an available chip, giving roughly 20 hp.

"The Rennsport Systems site shows an available chip, giving roughly 20 hp."

It's NOT a chip. The Porsche DME unit ('96-'97) must be flashed-programmed to change its maps.
Be aware that the process may affect your emissions testing (OBDII faults and Readiness Codes) and may NOT be easily reversed if there's a problem.

Okay,
My mistake with the semantics. You are quite correct, it is a flash code onto the current chip.

Try www.911chips.com but do people really expect 20hp gains?

The GIAC chips that Steve is using they have been reported to be the best for our 993's. While you should not expect 20HP a good programming like in Steve's chip makes a difference. I bought the chip for my cabrio from Mark in Hermosa who got it from Steve. The torque has for sure improved as well as the throttle response.
For sure though you should save up for the best upgrade for our cars which is a G50/21 box paired with a LW Flywheel and clutch.

Have anyone done a dyno run before and after installing one of these chips on a 95 ?? I'm very interested in seeing the torque curve...What's the increase in torque ?? don't care about the HP increase as torque in more important to me for Solo II.....

How do I find out which gearbox I already have and where do I find the G50/21 that is mentioned?

I bought my GIAC chip from Steve too. Steve does have some dyno data that he's posted in the past. I did 10-20 0-60 mph runs before and after installing the chip with a G-Tech pro and saw about an 8 hp increase.

Neil, You have a G50/20 gearbox. You can buy a used /21 from a number of sources in Europe or have yours re-geared. It's not cheap but it makes a profound difference.
