I bought Steve W.'s chip as well. Definite difference. It really smooths out the top end of the gears, especially first and second. I would agree that it's probably 8-10 hp.

I searched and could not find any dyno charts for this chip...If anyone has some, I'd like to see them. I'm interested in seeing the torque curve and figures etc...

I think the simplest solution is to email Steve and ask for the dyno charts. Or call him and ask him to email them. He's a very nice guy and likes to talk about Porsche cars.

Steve is very competent. Speak to him regarding what to expect. People keep talking about hp increase. This is not the important point IMHO. Important is getting a better torque curve, above all in the low and medium rev range. This really improves driveability.
To expect a 20 hp increase is not realistic.

It's NOT a chip. The Porsche DME unit ('96-'97) must be flashed-programmed to change its maps.

FYI,...Our programming does NOT impact any OBD-II parameters whatsoever and all such cars remain OBD-II compliant as well as smog compliant. Been that way since 1995 (OBD-I) and 1996 (OBD-II).
FWIW,....it IS reversible if that is needed.

I'll tell you this much - the g21 is much different from the chip. I will also say that I am at 6000 feet and when I drove to CA with my car and Steve's chip the car ran like crap. I'm sorry that I did the chip but would do the g21 again and again and again...

Just a quick note about HP improvements.
993's seem to vary in output more than any of their predecessors and some are clearly stronger running than others. There are many reasons for this that include variations in valve timing and compression.
For that reason (and others), HP gains from a chip do vary from 12 HP to 20 HP (race gas chip).
Thats quite a range and anyone considering a chip upgrade should not assume that they will immediately see the upper figure unless its programmed for race gas and a raised rev limiter. Also, don't forget that this country has pump gasolines ranging from 91 to 94 and that my friends, makes a considerable difference.
I put that power range on our website to illustrate the possibilities and to further show that not all 993's are identical.
The bottom line is that nobody's chip makes a car "grow fangs" and comparable to a 3.8 RS.
In reality, its a very nice improvement in throttle response and mid-range power which is precisely where you need it most. There is nothing that you can do to these cars that makes as much difference for the dollar spent (and still stay OBD-II compliant).

Is chip replacement a must with LWF on a 97 C2? I am scheduled for a LWF and RS Clutch install in Jan, 05 and would like to know if the chip is required at the same time to fix the install issues. Not sure if the install issues are that evident on a 97.

I will point out that: A) you WILL love the LWF. Great upgrade. and b) go down that slippery slope and get the your chip done. It is a nice upgrade (not as nice as the flywheel but worth the $ IMO).
The flywheel is an absolute no brainer for anyone that has a clutch problem. What other mod costs less than original, works flawlessly, increases performance and has greater reliabilty than the original? The absolute best mod to do in the car if a new clutch is needed anyway and it has to come out (btw, the rs clutch is a nice improvement over the original also).
