Post Coolest 993 trick yet?

Back in the 'day I had a corrado.. it had a spoiler, it would go up and down at approximately the same speeds as the 964 and the 993 spoilers.. I was heavy into mods (still am..) I read about a mod on the control box that controlled the speed that the spoiler was deployed.. Not having a RUF-like tuning house for the corrado's (except Rieger...ugghhh) we had to do things the old fashioned way.. you swapped out a resistor for the deploy speed and for a 39 cent resistor you had a cool mod.. ($250 in RUF dollars).. I completed the mod and it worked well.. the really cool thing that I never got to was to install a potentiometer into the spot in place of the resistor so you could dial in the speed.. maybe mount it in the glove box for a stealth look... I swear that these are the same modules, see attached link for a DIY on the mod + photos.. I'm cracking mine open this weekend and checking the resistor values on the resistors, if they are the same then this mod is good for our cars as well. I'll do some photos and post 'em.. maybe Robin will give me a spot??

Good mod. It's really annoying to see spoiler deploying in the city. Hope that police doesn't know spoiler deployment speed. But never be sure. Probably that's why 996 spoiler-opening speed is higher.

Coleman,

Do you have the spoiler control module's schematic for the 993? The resistor on the 993's control module is not as obvious as on your car.

We would love to be able to do this mod for the 993 cars as well.

Thank you

I would love to do this mod on my car. The 993 spoiler can be really annoying in city driving. I feel a DIY coming on!

Even if this mod doesnt work on the P.car it was fun to read the controversy over the page. <img src="http://members.rennlist.com/96p993/sm-flamethrower.gif" alt=" - " /> <img border="0" alt="[icon107]" title="" src="graemlins/icon107.gif" />

okay, so after cracking open the control box, it's like 15 times more complex then the ol' VW module.. what we need is a good EE on the list that can help read the schematic and figure out where the resistor is that gives the speed indication to the relay.. unless it's controlled by the big EPROM in there, in which case, we are hosed... maybe we can compare the ROW schematic and the US schematic and find the differences in R values as a comparison.. we would know where the differences between the boxes are and mod accordingly.....

This subject sounded familiar, did an archive search. Apparently a mod is possible, Ruf figured it out:

<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=003509#000000" target="_blank">Previous thread on changing spoiler activation speed</a>

In terms of figuring it out for a DIY - doesn't seem like it would be a very simple matter to follow their path or reverse engineer it, and I'd be willing to bet that it would involve a ROM change.

If you want it bad enough, looks like it would be best to contact Ruf.
