I just attended a local auto rally consisting of about 500 various
show cars. I was lucky to park my black C4S in the most visible
exhibition spot. Everyone was complimenting the car and making
comments like: "How did you get that shine?"...." I've been using
"X" brand wax and it doesn't shine"...." Is your car new?"
They could feel the paint was glossy, not oily, and I showed them
how a small cotton towel would slide -by itself- sitting on the hood.
Not surprising, they had never heard of Zaino. One red Corvette
had a spectacular shine. I asked the owner what he was using,
he said: "Zaino Z-5" -no surprise. I didn't find any other cars at
that rally with a better shine. I'm sure several cars will have Zaino
in the next rally.

Mr. Welch, it was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your
beautiful P-car. I'm not surprised that you're now officially a Zaino
convert / fanatic.

I am convinced from all the users of Zaino. I love the way that red hood looks. It really does look like heaven with the clouds in the reflection. I have a Black car and will give it the full treatment and see how it goes!

I recently tried Zaino for the first time on my Black 993. I only had time to apply 1 coat of Z-5. After a weekend at the track and a quick wash with the Zaino wash I was still impressed with how good the finish looked (I've been using Blitz wax and all the other 'best' products and I feel that the car has never looked better).

I'm looking forward to getting more coats on the PCar and then starting on our other cars.

I'm a believer, but to each his own.

FWIW, I use Zymol Titanium on my black 993. The car looks absolutely wonderful, with that very "deep" look to the finish. The Titanium seems to last very well -- supposedly it was designed for SUVs ( ) and the harsh environments that they are "intended" to be used in. My car sees little rain, but is used regularly. The water literally falls off the car after a wash, and what remains beads up extremely well for many months.

I don't want to prolong this discussion-- especially since the 914 and 944 guys often joke that the forums for any of the 911 variants tend to focus on wine, cheese, and wax preferences!

My experience, though, is like Todd's. Zymol wax seems to last an incredibly long time on my car. I am puzzled by comments from others that zymol has not lasted for them. I think any wax requires good surface preparation, but this is especially true for zymol. For those who haven't had much luck with zymol, maybe the paint wasn't "squeaky" clean before zymol HD Cleanse and wax was applied?

But more importantly, can anybody recommend a good Chardonnay? Something a little oakey, but not too assertive?

A final tip: you can "top" a carnuaba wax over a polymer to get the best of both products; endurance of the later, depth and warmth of the former. After experimenting with various stuff on artic silver, I have come to the conclusion that S100 paint cleanser/ S100 carnuaba wax combination is unbeatable for results, ease of use, and price. As discussed on Autopia, the stuff is the same formula as the pricier PS21 and can be found at any Harley-Davidson dealership. Klasse twins great but a lot of work and very time consuming.

"i find that the shine with an organic product (zymol) yields a totally different type of brilliance from the polymer wax. it somehow looks warmer and richer/ fuller"

i agree full heartedly. i have used zymol, griots, one grand blitz, zaino, p21S, meguires to name a few.

two months ago, i used either zymol or griots, then i wanted to try zaino. i stripped paint with dawn 2x. then clay it. then used zaino product per instruction to the T. and than Z2'd 12x, once every 72 hours. yes, i am insane. it looks good, but it's not a warm shine like other waxes i used.

i then stripped paint 3x with dawn removed all zaino and clayed again, 3M imperial glaze 2x, P21S cleanser 2x and P21S waxed 3x, then once every 2 weeks. the shine under sunlight or under flourescent light is the appear to be equal b/n two the two brands. but zaino does last longer. if you don't like waxing, then use zaino. if you are insane like me i prefer zymol, griots, or P21S.

FWIW, zymol smells like food. maybe better than food. griot's has best of show wax and carnuba wax. i have both, the carnuba is easier to get on and off if you use hand applciation. i prefer the carnuba over show wax. P21S is similar to Griots carnuba in outcome but has no fragrance.

if i missed something or you have Q, just email me. my car is arctic silver and the other is red.

John,
Is there any paint left on your car?
